WHEN PEACH TREE RASCALS ARE MENTIONED IN ANY PUBLICATION OR RADIO SHOW - two essential characteristics of their music and essence are constantly mentioned: effortlessness and summer. The band has released a music video for “Oh Honey!” from their debut EP, Camp Nowhere which was written and produced with their quarantine trips to Yosemite National Park in mind. A collective whose trademark is their radiant and nostalgic sound, their debut saw them develop their music into colorful and summery pop while balancing a contemporary genre-melding edge. The best example of this is “Oh Honey!”, which group member Joseph Barros expressed is an ode to his father who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. “The production stems from The Beach Boys, The Beatles, Frank Sinatra, the Carpenters,” states Barros, and these influences permeate throughout the track while the group simultaneously maintains their youthful essence.

The sentimentality- which is very lifeblood of “Oh Honey!” as made clear in the influences, production, and real life inspiration - is perfectly embodied by the music video. Directed by the creative house, kids don’t know, the video was intended to visually depict the overwhelming feeling of “love”. “My brother and I came up with the idea of it being an older Joseph recalling his youth and relationship through memories from the past,” explains Jorge Olabaza, the group’s creative director. These “memories” are captured with grainy analogue footage that depicts the passage of time and romance with the warmth and comforting familiarity of the song.

Following the success of their RIAA Certified Gold single “Mariposa”, the collective’s brand of effortless and innovative surf-rock has become an integral part of pop music. With the aforementioned single peaking at #1 on Alt radio, and coverage from Paper Magazine, The Fader and more, this a collective you can’t help but pay attention to. While they have not confirmed any future releases, keep your fingers crossed for some singles in the summer. In the meantime, the rosy bliss of “Oh Honey!” and the accompanying visuals will be enough to satiate any fans - and even casual listeners - of Peach Tree Rascals.
