Spotlight: DOV "It Feels Right"

BRINGING A FRESH PERSPECTIVE TO THE MUSIC INDUSTRY - DOV is here to shake things up. Born in Tel Aviv, queer pop musician Dov Eagle alias DOV, moved to New York City after serving in the Israel Defence Forces until age 21. This experience of moving to an entirely different country to live more freely has shaped DOV's music greatly.
Speaking of his newest EP It Feels Right, DOV explains that the record explores his struggle with self-discovery and coming to terms with his sexuality, in addition to documenting his experience as a queer immigrant in the United States.
He speaks of the guilt and shame that comes hand in hand with being “different”, and the agonizing, frightening moments when he would realize that he was attracted to other men.
The EP begins with “Mind High” — a gorgeous track that instantly sets a somewhat unsettling mood. With melodious vocals from fellow Israel-born musician TESHA and a transcendental production, the song is distinctive and one of a kind, gracefully dipping into psychedelia. “Mind High” stunningly transitions into the following tune.
“It Feels Right”, the title track of the record, is rightly so. There is something equally classic and disorienting about the powerful song, inducing nostalgia and bringing out feelings you didn't remember having. It's almost hypnotic, with DOV's gentle crooning and vulnerable vocals.
“Reciprocate” — the third track off the record — was also one of the first singles released by DOV for the EP in April this year. Urgent and dark, the song is a collaboration with fellow queer artist Vaughan, based in London. It is accompanied by equally stunning visuals, and beautifully captures a uniquely queer experience.
About the wistful lyrics and complex feelings the song captures, DOV explains, “‘Reciprocate’ is a song about yearning to give everything to someone, although you struggle to feel anything yourself. It’s about wanting to give yourself to someone when you’re emotionally unavailable, so instead you cope with high nights and seedy one-night stands. It’s about breaking emotional attachment through sex and partying. I wanted the vibe of the song to be dark, yet emotional and melodic - so I layered lots of ambient sounds I recorded in the studio messing around with different synths and other instruments.”
The last track on the EP is “Star Lee”, the perfect closing track. With its catchy beats and honeyed vocals from TESHA, “Star Lee” is the kind of song that plays towards the end of a house party, as people begin to settle into comfort and exhaustion.
DOV's music has always proven to be an escape from the inescapable. While each song on the EP is different from the last, “It Feels Right” still manages to hold onto a specific, dreamy and magical vibe.
DOV pours his heart and soul into his work, and it shines through, captivating people globally.
