Q&A: BIZZY Spills Her Secrets in “Don’t Tell The Girls”

INTERVIEW

INTERVIEW

☆ BY IZZY PETRAGLIA

BIZZY is no stranger to sharing her most vulnerable moments with her listeners, even when it comes to doing what she’s not supposed to. The alt-pop singer’s new single “Don’t Tell The Girls” shines as the perfect example of one of those moments of weakness–one where you know you’re in for a hefty lecture from your friends. The single utilizes BIZZY’s strength in lyrical storytelling to confess secret texts and a late-night meet-up with an ex that both her and her friends don’t approve of.

She was fresh off the release of “Hotter Than Your Ex” during her last conversation with LUNA. Now, BIZZY continues to expand her universe into a linear story that unfolds before us. As usual, her witty lyrics are her forte in highlighting her bright and deeply honest personality. In conversation with LUNA, BIZZY opens up about how she breaks the “I saw my ex” news to her friends, the art of letting go, and her excitement around her upcoming tour with Rachel Chinouriri.

LUNA: Everything about this song is witty, relatable and just fun. It perfectly captures that feeling of doing something you know you shouldn’t be doing. What have you found truly helps you achieve a “reality-check” moment that stops you from going back to an ex?

BIZZY: Ahhh thank you! I think exactly what the song says. It’s “the girls,” my friends, that hold me accountable for not backsliding. They know I deserve better, which is why I knew if I told them, I would be met with “don’t even think about it BIZ.” Which like, thank GOD. I truly have the best friends and am so grateful that they would say that, but this song is just a fun play on it.

LUNA: I think a lot of people are going to have so much fun with this one because of how much they resonate with it. I love how relevant it is to dating in this day and age; you always see memes on social media about breaking no-contact when you’re not supposed to. Does releasing this single that puts a “moment of weakness” out in the open feel particularly vulnerable to you at all?

BIZZY: Weirdly enough, no. I think from day one of releasing songs I have always been vulnerable; not in an “oh I’m so different” kind of way, but It’s the only way I can write. If I’m not being honest with myself, I usually don’t end up liking the song.

LUNA: How do you personally go about breaking the news of seeing an ex to your friends?

BIZZY: It starts with “uhhhh…..sooooo….. I saw what’s his face yesterday” and is met with “NO F^#%ing way tell me everything” (laughs). Then we hash it out. It’s always loving, even when they are telling me I did something dumb.

LUNA: I love that there’s so many connections between the lyrics in your last release “Hotter Than Your Ex” to lyrics in “Don’t Tell The Girls.” In “Hotter Than Your Ex,”  you say “I’m not the same, thank god I’ve changed,” and then ask “maybe he’s changed,” in “Don’t Tell The Girls.” It’s almost as if you’re building a story within your single releases from 2024 up to this one. Is this intentional? If so, will we continue to see this story play out on a full length project?

BIZZY: I’m gonna be honest, I didn’t even realize I did that with the lyrics…but f*ck yeah! Thank you for pointing that out! That’s so cool. That said, yes, there’s definitely intentionality woven through each song and storyline. Throughout the year, you’ll see even more of a through line. I can’t WAIT!

LUNA: When you talked to LUNA at the end of December 2024, you mentioned one of your favorite parts of your musical journey was both the opportunities you had received but were also taken away—how you’re learning to go with what life offers and continuing to work hard. How has this continued to develop now that we’re a few months into 2025?

BIZZY: Gosh, I love that we have continued a relationship through my music journey, because you guys remind me and hold me accountable to things I’ve said in the past! As I keep releasing and writing music, I learn and relearn lessons everyday. The lesson of “letting go” is still one I'm working on. My biggest struggle is trying to find the balance of letting go. So, I’ll keep y’all posted as time goes on!!

LUNA: You’re going to be opening for Rachel Chinouriri later this year as well! What helps you feel at home or in a state of comfort while travelling from city to city on tour?

BIZZY: Yes! I’m so FREAKIN EXCITED! The thing that I have found the most helpful when I’m on tour is my morning routine. No matter where I am or who I’m with, I do it everyday without fail. The consistency helps me stay grounded.

LUNA: Throughout a whirlwind of releases and exciting opportunities, what keeps you grounded and how do you choose to spend any downtime you have?

BIZZY: My family and friends. I continue to be in awe of the support system I have around me. They are truly just the sh*t. They remind me who I am and what truly matters. I would have lost my mind ten times over by now without them. I also spend most of my downtime at the farm I work at. It has been such a blessing to have that job. It allows me to just unplug and be around animals and nature and kind of “come down” from the chaos. But also, I won’t lie, I watch a lot of TV—it helps me just get out of my head.

LUNA: Finally, what advice do you have for the girls that are currently sneaking around with someone they shouldn’t be?

BIZZY: HA um don’t do it. Just kidding, I can't say anything. Me and my best friend always laugh about the fact that if I am hiding something from her, that’s when you know it’s bad, because we never keep anything from each other. I don’t really have any advice, because that’d just make me a hypocrite, LOL.
