LUNA: How do you think your previous musical experiences together have shaped Amo Amo as a band?
AMO AMO: This band is a liberating force of personal musical expression in our lives. We all have a lot of experience playing in other people's bands so it's really special to get together for the sole purpose of making music that we love to play.
LUNA: Were there any artists in particular that inspired the sound of this album?
AMO AMO: One of my biggest influences & deepest loves is the music of Selena Quintanilla. I keep her powerful, joyful spirit close to my heart always.
LUNA: I read previously that you all essentially hibernated in a house north of Santa Barbara w/o internet or anything to create some music. What was the creative process for this album like? Similar?
AMO AMO: The process for creating this album is exactly that. We returned to that same centuries year old house in the woods where we had our first writing retreat as a band. The only difference this time is our amazing engineers Alex Krispin and Jeff Fettig had built in an entire recording studio for Jim James & us to work with & instead of staying for 3 days we were there for 3 weeks.
LUNA: What is your personal favorite track on the album & why?
AMO AMO: My favorite track on the album is "Closer To You". It really puts a smile on my face. Such a fun, sweet vibe. I like to imagine friends & lovers dancing to it in a living room or a grassy park somewhere.
LUNA: Is there something you want people to take away from your music?
AMO AMO: I hope people hear our music and can feel that it comes from a place of love, deep friendship and a sincere wish for a kinder world. I hope that people come to our shows and find a community of caring, open, dancing souls. I hope people find their soul mates at our shows. I believe that's what art is for, to find your soul mates.
LUNA: What do you hope the rest of 2019 has in store for y’all?
AMO AMO: More tours! More dancing! More loving! More peace!
