Now Listening: This Week's Tracks

By Astrid Ortega & Isabella Vega

Argonaut & Wasp - “TVS”

Argonaut & Wasp, an amalgamation of multiple decades of inspiration, make music to groove to.The band, based in NYC and using their work to creating the soundtrack to the city in each song, takes inspiration from 70s fashion, 80s synth, and 90s culture. The moment you hear this song, you are immediately reminded of the nostalgic folklore of bands such as ABBA, with it’s synth pop influences and drum loops. The song itself speaks of the yearning and lovestruck mindset of a lover in the summer, spilling over itself in excitement to tell you the story of how they (almost) ran away with the love of their life.

Adi Feher - “Game of Hope”

Everything Adi Feher touches is larger than life. With a debut album set to be released this year, the Tel Aviv-based singer/songwriter has spent the past few years in a sort of metamorphosis of self; after the death of her mother, the singer was able to explore the abrupt burst of maturity from child to adult, turning topics such as innocence, sadness, joy, and light into works of art. With her newest single, “Game of Hope”, she takes these sort of arbitrary concepts and meshes them into a joyful mix of obscure references and direct lyricism, creating a safe space for the viewer to explore what their sense of personhood means to them.

And The Boys - “All My Troubles”

Created with this orange and purple color palette of sound, the band “And The Boys” creates a song that is both introspective and uplifting. The band’s happy-go-lucky vibe bleeds throughout this track, accompanied by echoing vocals and a simple beat that makes you want to just vibe. “All My Troubles” tells the universal story that all millenials face: walking the fine line between responsible adult and irresponsible child; the lyrics juxtapose facets of both impulsive actions and reasonable thoughts, like the idea of getting paid and immediately spending it. Through it all, there’s an underlying sweetness that comes from the innocence of being a young and loving fool that everyone holds close to their hearts

Jane Holiday - “All Yours”

LA Indie pop artist releases his new single, “All Yours,” an upbeat song filled with power and love. Jane Holiday is obsessed with bringing characters into the musical realm so, Jane Holiday is a 60s film star who spends time in Cannes and smokes tiny cigarettes while wearing suits and driving vintage European cars. Jane Holiday is full of surprises and feelings, his song “All Yours” is about a tale of unrequited love, his girlfriend leaving for school and him, heartbroken but willing to wait for her. Prepare for the biggest awe, it ended up working out perfectly and they have been together for 10 years! We wish them all the best, and a thank you to Jane Holiday for making “All Yours,” a cute song to dedicate to a loved one, and a cool song to jump and dance around to.

J Laser - “Sunshine”

“Sunshine” starts off with a quiet little melody, one to find similar to daydreaming. The quiet melody gets more prominent and the vocals start coming in, leading to a feeling of euphoria. J. Laser is Jordan Lawler, a composer/producer in Los Angeles, who’s been working with M83 as well, is soon to release 10 singles in 2020 that will be two EPs. His sound has cultivated to cinematic masterpieces, a “coming of age” sense, and even sounds to make you feel like you’re on a cloud. “Sunshine” is the kind of song you’ll play on repeat because the melody will be stuck in your head. He’s hoping to disrupt the musical culture right now, and bring them a pallet of new and fresh sounds. We’re quite excited to see what J. Laser has in store for us and will be keeping up on him.
