Now Listening: This Week's Tracks

Alfie Templeman - “Forever Isn’t Long Enough”

An upbeat groove, Alfie Templeman's breezy new single “Forever Isn't Long Enough” follows the success of his EP Happiness in Liquid Form, released in July this year.

At only 17, Templeman has achieved great success, with over 800,000 streams on Spotify. “Forever Isn't Good Enough” only adds to the rise of this brilliant musician as he shares his newfound wisdom. Although “Forever Isn't Good Enough” is a catchy and light tune, its lyrics tell a different story.

“I’m still way too young to give anyone life advice, but this track to me is about how I’ve noticed that the further away you are from your memories, the closer they are to your heart,” Templeman explains, continuing, “Some days I can’t stop thinking about how short life is and how you only have so much time to spend with the ones you love. Deep, right? Honestly I’ve made so many songs with the titles “Forever Isn’t Long Enough” but this one felt the most meaningful.”

The song's title carries even more meaning, given Templeman's diagnosis of childhood lung disease, making him vulnerable to COVID-19. The music video of “Forever Isn't Long Enough”, directed by Thomas Davis, is colourful and bright, a perfect visual representation of the song itself.

Mallrat - “Rockstar”

Mallrat has come back to give us a little treat. The 21-year-old from Brisbane, Australia delivers honest and impactful tunes like her new single, “Rockstar,” a song about becoming an indie pop alt rocker. The song’s chorus was written a year and a half ago, with it’s own attitude and tone, so when Mallrat finished writing the rest, she was a different person from when she wrote that chorus.

The contrast can be seen from the lyrics and the guitar and beat of the song. She’s sure of herself now, she will be that rockstar. With a soft yet touching melody and catchy lyrics, you’ll be sure to be dancing around your room to it or screaming the lyrics in the car. The ending of the song are of heavy guitars that tie the tone of the song perfectly. This is the kind of song that you can feel in your entire body in an emotional way or a physical way. Regardless, we’re excited to hear that Mallrat will be releasing a debut album in 2021. Something to look forward to.

Katzú Oso - “More Than A Woman”

A sweet tune with lyrics that are heartwarming, Katzú Oso's “More Than A Woman” pulls at your heartstrings with a stunning simplicity rarely found in most music. The track talks about seeing someone differently and finding love, as well as the deep meaning this love holds once you have it.

The moniker of Latinx solo artist Paul Hernandez, Katzú Oso is a project that combines upbeat production with dreamy vocals to create an enchanting synth-drenched sound.

This sound, inspired by artists like HOMESHAKE and Tame Impala, captures the essence of growing up as a brown person in an American metropolitan city.

Tim Atlas - “Cold Shoulder”

A bedroom pop, nostalgic king Tim Atlas releases new single, “Cold Shoulder.” The song is filled with groovy melodies, significant beats and Atlas’ dreamy vocals that blend indie-pop and R&B perfectly to create his own unique sound. “Cold Shoulder” creates a happy and loving atmosphere, whether you want to read into the lyrics in a deeper way or just accept them at the surface level, it’s a cute song about wanting to be with someone.

Atlas doesn’t disappoint to make sweet little melodies that you can dedicate to someone or share a memory to. “Cold Shoulder” was produced by Tim Atlas himself as well as the animated video for it. However, Atlas is currently in the studio recording his forthcoming EP that will be released by Nettwerk Records. It’s an exciting time for music as we watch artists come out with so many bursts of creativity and we’re excited to hear what Tim Atlas had in store for us.

UPSAHL - “Money On My Mind”

A playful, poppy tune that one cannot help but sing along to, “MoneyOnMyMind” is classic UPSAHL, hooking the listener from the very first second. Following the success of tracks like “People I Don't Like” and “12345SEX”, the song sets the stage for the release of the singer's highly anticipated EP, Young Life Crisis, out October 30th.

About the song, UPSAHL explains, “‘MoneyOnMyMind’ has nothing to do with actual money; it's a mindset. You can have all the money in the world and still be completely miserable, but to FEEL money as fuck, that's a whole other vibe. It’s all about the glow up. After every weak moment, there's always a bounce back, and this song captures that feeling of getting on some new shit and hustling for the life you want.”

Produced by Absofacto, “Money on My Mind” is another stride in the scene of alternative pop, with its swelling bass, distorted 808s and undercurrent of guitar in addition to UPSAHL's unsurprisingly stunning vocals. With over 90 million screams and widespread acclaim, UPSAHL's music reaches new highs with every new track.
