FULL OF SASS, SENSUALITY, AND SOULFULNESS — Jordyn Simone brings the heat with her new single, “Drown.” Drawing upon her summer romance, Simone presents to us a single that is ignited with power and passion. “Drown” highlights Simone’s immersement into womanhood and her most authentic self. As reflected in the track, the LA-based artist radiates with confidence. Simone writes from the heart, expressing the vulnerable depths of herself and self-discovery, in hopes of empowering women and uplifting their confidence.

Growing up as a gospel singer, Simone is deeply rooted in music. Through her musical exploration, Simone has evolved into a self-proclaimed “genre-less” artist. In her 21 years, Simone has competed as a finalist on both The Voice and American Idol. While she is already mature beyond her years, Simone will continue to grow and thrive, sharing her unique sound with the world.

Confidence is in Simone’s blood. At a young age, confidence was instilled in Simone by the empowering women that surrounded her: their energy was always unapologetically bold and irrevocably strong, molding Simone into the resilient young woman that she is today. However, there was one woman in particular who touched her life the most: her mother. Simone admires her mother, who is both driven and educated, but also knows how to let loose and have fun. “As I’ve grown up and have had to take on the role as my own executive producer, songwriter, content creator, and performer, I’ve learned that confidence lives in the balance,” Simone shares, on reflection upon her mother. “Being able to juggle it all and do so with vibrancy, strength, and love is true confidence to me.”

One of Simone’s favorite moments during the making of “Drown” was the development of the bridge section. While Simone was brainstorming and collaborating with TJ and Nita, she came to the conclusion that “by leaving that section lyrically bare and adding harmonies to fatten it up, it would best suit the song.” This bridge section, which follows the second hook, highlights Simone’s smooth vocals and mesmerizing lyrics. “[The bridge section is] one of my favorite parts of the track because I feel like it’s the one moment the song has time to breathe,” she shares. This breath gathers up the power in “Drown,” synthesizing the energy and intensity of Simone’s lyrics. The bridge also invites listeners to embody self-confidence and self-love.

Simone’s favorite lyric from “Drown” is the hook, “baby don’t drown on my drip.” Jokingly, Simone and Nita were playing with word choices, describing swag as “drip.” They turned to one another simultaneously, saying, “don’t drown on my drip” and the hook was born. Simone cherishes this collaborative moment that completed the missing piece to “Drown.”

The visualizer for “Drown” was conceptualized and executed by Simone and Liza. “Liza and I started going crazy with the Pinterest boards, scrolling for hours to find the right balance of cool water shots that also captured the theme of swag, sass, and attitude, which is the ultimate theme of the song,” Simone explains. While the visuals are aesthetically pleasing, they are also artfully symbolic of the song. Adding another layer of meaning to “Drown,” it captures perfectly both the ear and the eye.

Currently attending USC Thornton School of Music — which has humbled her as a student and strengthened her depth as a musician — Simone feels very blessed to have the opportunity to learn and grow as an artist, specifically in the realm of songwriting. The connections that Simone has made have given her insights on how to be real, raw, and vulnerable with her art. Simone aims to create music that resonates with her and hopes that people can relate to it, as well. She expresses her gratitude to Thornton School of Music “for all the exposure, insight and opportunities the program has offered [her].”

But music isn’t Simone’s only repertoire — she's also an ultimate prankster. Simone finds it amusing to pour cold water on her roommates when they’re showering or to leave weird things under her roommates' sheets for them to find later. Simone is fun — she enjoys the little things in life that make you laugh. She also loves cute outings like afternoon picnics. Simone shares some of her essentials: “My favorite Trader Joe’s snacks, a board or card game, and black girl sunscreen.”

With the release of “Drown” and school out for summer, Simone is planning on releasing her next single, “Burn,” within the next month. Simone shares with us an insider on her unreleased single: “‘Burn’ also taps into the theme of elements and works in juxtaposition with ‘Drown.’ ‘Burn’ is cinematic and full and taps into a different side of my sound.” Simone explores another facet with her music by channeling a darker feel to it. “Burn” also showcases Simone’s vocals and versatility as an artist, thus attributing to her genre-less work. Simone is excited to share her more serious side of music and to open up the world to a more vulnerable layer of who she is.
