Review: Charlotte Day Wilson in Portland
It took a team effort to make it to Hawthorne Theatre, a tucked away venue in the Southeast suburbs of Portland. According to Charlotte Day Wilson, an unexpected start to their tour had the team scrambling a bit, needing to swap tour vans and drive all the way down from Vancouver, B.C. But even without a soundcheck, the band was well prepared to perform their rhythmically soft setlist. CDW is on tour for her debut album, Cyan Blue, a record of intense self-reflection exploring past experiences among wistful soul and r&b melodies.
Among other fan favorites, such as “Work” and “Debut”, Charlotte Day Wilson found her stride on stage swapping between piano and guitars drifting between blissful chords among the band’s deeply nostalgic setlist, all while channeling the namesake in Cyan Blue. The record being a collection of different hues in emotions championing young love and hopeful experiences was not lost on the crowd for the evening who quietly danced and sang along with the Toronto-based artist, giving us a lasting feeling that’s all too familiar.
