LUNA: How’s 2025 been treating you so far?

REVENGE WIFE: So far 2025 is full existential crisis for me! There is so much shifting in the music industry with what it means to be a musician so I’m reconsidering my goals a lot. I’ve been doing music for over 12 years, with my other project HOLYCHILD, so I’m trying to look at what I really love doing and what I do out of habit. It’s been a lot of tarot-pulling and introspection and I have no answers yet but I’m trying!

LUNA: Tell us about the current music you’re working on. Any common themes or musical inspirations?

REVENGE WIFE: I’m working on my album, Alien Witch, and each song is a different sign of the zodiac. Waste of Tears comes out March 5, and that’s Cancer. These are my most precious songs, all of them written in pure states of connection (for me), and I’ve constantly found myself returning them to comfort me. Music/art is this strange balance between escapism and realism. Because with the best art, I feel like the outside world doesn’t exist, but I also feel through all the emotions I’m going through. So my themes are basically: connection with self, how I can connect with myself more, how I can understand my own reality and how does that inform my relationships?

LUNA: How have you seen your sound evolve with more recent music?

REVENGE WIFE: My sound has evolved a lot over the past 5 years! Lately I’m pretty obsessed with The Voidz and Fontaines DC so I want things to feel harder and heavier but still with my femininity. I love that balance. I’m a Libra!

LUNA: Who have you been listening to lately?

REVENGE WIFE: To be honest, I mostly put on like.. 528 Hz healing sounds playlists. If you’ve gotten this far in reading this haha you’re probably not surprised. I feel mentally cluttered lately so it’s been a lot of M83’s album DSVII and Mort Garson and John Fahey and Jean-Paul Jarre. A lot of ambient instrumental music.

LUNA: You'll be returning for this year's SX - what are you most excited about for your sets this year?

REVENGE WIFE: I have been performing for over 12 years and yeah, this is my fourth year as a SXSW Official Artist so I’m really considering WHAT is performance to me and HOW does it feel? Like I was saying earlier with the existential considerations of 2025 for me, I think being a musician can sometimes feel self-aggrandizing. It’s not when it’s centered around the beauty of the music, but lately the whole industry feels kind of vapid with its emphasis on social media and CONTENT over longer-processed art. So I am going into my own shows as an exploration. How is it more about the people there and less about me? I have this cool Austin-based band, Terra Cognita, backing my sets so I want to feel the music in a new way and I guess that’s what I’m excited about! An exploration of performance in a way I’ve never done before!

LUNA: What can attendees expect from your sets?

REVENGE WIFE: Ideally, during a show of mine people feel empowered like they can do whatever they want. After the show they can write the pop song of their dreams or make the film they see in their mind.

LUNA: What’s on your Austin to do list this time?

REVENGE WIFE: I’m kind of having a spicy margarita obsession lately sooo besides a TON of shows, I’ll be drinking spicy margs, and eating barbecue and embracing the warm weather (currently 19º in NYC as I write this!). I love Austin!! I can’t wait to be there!!
