INTERVIEW
INTERVIEW
QUELLE ROX IS NAVIGATING THE DELICATE BALANCE OF AMBITION AND GRACE AS SHE ENTERS 2025, a sentiment familiar to many creatives. With a new project on the horizon, she's finding inspiration in the vastness of the universe, drawing from the insights of astrophysicists like Neil deGrasse Tyson to fuel her songwriting. Yet, at the heart of her music remains the timeless theme of longing and daydreaming, a thread that weaves through her evolving sound.
Having refined her artistry with each release, Quelle Rox is poised to unveil a collection of songs that promise to surpass her previous work. Her recent listening habits, ranging from the introspective melodies of Weyes Blood and Faye Webster to the cultural pride of Bad Bunny, reflect the diverse influences shaping her current musical landscape.
Before she takes the stage at our SXSW showcase on March 13th at the Driskill, we delve into her creative process, her evolving sound, and the cosmic inspirations that are guiding her next chapter.
LUNA: How’s 2025 been treating you so far?
QUELLE ROX: It’s like how it is for all of us, the start of the year is always tricky because there’s this pressure to reach all of your goals. As a musical artist or any creative or any human haha, it’s easy to feel unaccomplished at the end and start of the year, but always with the desire to keep growing and creating. I’m definitely putting some self-imposed pressure on myself, but I’m trying to stay patient, give myself grace, and trust the process!
LUNA: Tell us about the current music you’re working on. Any common themes or musical inspirations?
QUELLE ROX: I’m working on a full project. I took some time from writing during the release of my last project in November, midnight blue EP and I needed some inspo after a mini break. Organically, I started listening to Neil deGrasse Tyson’s StarTalk and physicists like Brian Cox and Brian Greene to go to sleep haha. I love learning about the universe and cosmology, which gave me inspiration to write my first song, “Stardust In My Blood.” From there, there’s been lots of new songs in the works. But overall, my main inspiration is still of missing that someone and daydreaming of what could have been haha.
LUNA: How have you seen your sound evolve with more recent music?
QUELLE ROX: 100%. I feel like my sound has refined throughout each project, as well as my lyrics. My last project was a full on Spanglish dreamy EP and some of my best songs are on there. I’m so excited for my fan base and new listeners to hear what’s coming next. I always want to top the last project and think I will!
LUNA: Who have you been listening to lately?
QUELLE ROX: Weyes Blood and Faye Webster have been heavy on rotation. I love their lyrics and production - it’s calming. Of course I’ve also been listening to “DTMF” by Bad Bunny, a beautiful project that makes me proud of my Puerto Rican roots.
LUNA: What are you most excited about for your SXSW set this year?
QUELLE ROX: I’m excited to connect with my musical friends and meet new artists. It’s my first SXSW, so I’m just happy to be there. I can’t wait to see my bestie, Andria Rose, we’ll be performing our two collab songs together. :)
LUNA: What can attendees expect from your sets?
QUELLE ROX: Never before performed songs from midnight blue, bestie moment with Andria Rose, and pure Latina fun vibes.
LUNA: What’s on your Austin to-do list?
QUELLE ROX: Honestly, just to offer the fans a dreamy show and have fun! I just booked my flight and hotel and I’m ready to see where the wind takes me.
