COLORFUL AND AUDACIOUS - Bloom welcomes Jasmïn to a new chapter of growth and self acceptance. The French artist covers an array of ground with her new EP Bloom, featuring both raw and poetic tracks as well as groovy and upbeat songs you’ll be moving to. Read below to learn more about Jasmïn’s influences, the process behind Bloom and more.

LUNA: What are some of the main sonic elements you’ve been exploring with new music?

JASMÏN: In this new project, I’ve been experimenting with a lot of different electronic keyboards and synths, particularly synth bass. I’ve also been exploring some more traditional “acoustic” instruments, you can hear that on “Higher” and “Priceless”.

LUNA: How does your cultural background come into your music, if at all?

JASMÏN: My parents always listened to a lot of music, from a multitude of genres, which has definitely inspired my tastes and my own music. Both of my parents have been Buddhist for over 30 years, so I grew up in a very spiritual environment. It challenged me to think outside of the box, and always put things into perspective. That’s also probably why my music and lyrics are so reflective and introspective haha! I also traveled a lot growing up, with friends and family all over the world, which is also how I learned English at such a young age, and why I’m so comfortable writing in singing in English.

LUNA: Can you share a favorite memory from the creative process for Bloom?

JASMÏN: I think I would say that my favorite moment was my trip to Spain, in a desert called “Las Bardenas”. I went there with my photographer and makeup-artist to shoot the cover picture and all the other promotional pictures for the new EP. It was quite an adventure, we had a lot of fun and the three of us bonded a lot.

LUNA: Which track means the most to you from the EP and why?

JASMÏN: The most meaningful track to me from this EP is “The Reason” because, first of all, it’s the one that’s sounds the most like I envisioned it when I started writing it, which is really fulfilling. It’s also lyrically very meaningful to me cause I remind myself that my life is what I make of it and to remember I’m so lucky to have all the love and support around me through my family, my spirituality and myself.

LUNA: Which track was the most difficult to finish? Why did you decide to stick with it?

JASMÏN: I would say that “Bliss” was definitely the most difficult to finish because there were more people working on it than the other tracks and it ended up having the most versions than any other track on the record. I decided to stick with it cause we finally had a version I was happy with and I think it’s cool to have those two distinct parts answering each other. I’m also a big fan of Hendrix Harris’s work so I was honored to have him on this project.

LUNA: What do you want people to take away from Bloom?

JASMÏN:I would love them to enjoy the vibe of the music of course! But also to remind people of the importance of self-acceptance and that their life is the most valuable thing despite the obstacles they need to face. We are stronger than we think and we should never lose sight of that!

LUNA: In 2019 your deal ended with Universal Music Group and you formed your own label, Tashi Records - that’s awesome! Why was this transition important to you?

JASMÏN:When my contract ended with Universal, they offered me to re-sign it for four more years and I declined their offer. It was really important for me to learn all the business aspects of the job as an artist, even though I knew it would be more difficult, especially financially. I also wanted to be completely free in my creative decisions. I now know it’s not easy but I’ve also learned A LOT!

LUNA: I love the video for “Running Away” and your visual aesthetic in general. How did the video idea for “Running Away” come about?

JASMÏN:Thank you so much! I get a lot of my inspiration from Pinterest and Instagram haha. For the “Running away” video, the idea came from the video makers Bleu desert. I sent them a few keywords and explained what the song meant to me. They then got back to me with their interpretation and how they wanted to show it on a screen and I loved their ideas!

LUNA: If you could share one piece of advice to young women trying to find their place in the music industry, what would you say?

JASMÏN: Focus on your music and trust yourself ! Try to get yourself a team of people who believe in you and who you trust so you don’t need to carry all the weight on your shoulders and can focus on your creative process. And most of all be patient, all good things come to those who wait!

LUNA: Big question so take it how you like, what are your intentions for 2020? What can we expect from you in the upcoming months?

JASMÏN: I really wanna get back to a more organic and acoustic writing process with musicians and put some put more music out soon. I would also love to perform more often! And last but not least, I really wanna do more songwriting for other artists and develop my label Tashi Records.
