Q&A: Jame Minogue Closes his ‘TV DINNER’ Era at SXSW 2025

INTERVIEW

INTERVIEW

JAME MINOGUE IS ENTERING A PERIOD OF ARTISTIC EXPLORATION and he's eager to share that journey with fans at our upcoming SXSW showcase on March 13th, at the Driskill. In a refreshing move away from the constant digital buzz, Minogue has embraced a flip phone, finding newfound focus and creative freedom. This shift has fueled his inspiration, leading him to delve into his father's time in the Royal Airforce, unearthing stories of friendship, romance, and the captivating aesthetics of vintage uniforms and planes.

His upcoming music promises a blend of genres and languages, reflecting the diverse tapestry of his influences, from his childhood love of Latin rhythms to the alt-rock energy of My Chemical Romance. As he prepares to close the chapter on his TV DINNER era with a special, theatrical performance at SXSW, Minogue is crafting an experience that transcends the typical live set.

In this interview, we explore the evolution of his sound, his eclectic musical inspirations—ranging from Clairo to Jimi Hendrix—and his anticipation for the Austin experience, which includes food, museums, and a laid-back vibe.

LUNA: How’s 2025 been treating you so far?

MINOGUE: 2025 has been really joyous and exciting. It's been a time of growth where I'm taking a different approach in my career by letting go of the reins and being open to whatever comes. Been cooking, got a new bike, and getting into acting! I also got a flip phone to help me focus more and I've made way more music because of it.

LUNA: Tell us about the current music you’re working on. Any common themes or musical inspirations?

MINOGUE: I've been really inspired by my dad’s time in the Royal Airforce. I found some photos that I hadn't seen before and was so fascinated by the uniforms, planes, and the stories of friendship, romance, joy, and sadness. I've always been obsessed with planes since I was a kid and I think I'm finally ready to tap into that world and create a new persona. There's definitely gonna be bilingual stuff happening and a blend of genres. Lots of guitar per usual haha.

LUNA: How have you seen your sound evolve with more recent music?

MINOGUE: My last project was TV DINNER, which dropped in November. The one before that was Principe Azul, which sounds completely different. Principe Azul is a love story that had so many traditional latin elements and folklorish rhythms, which were a huge part of my childhood. Then, we have TV DINNER, which is a commentary on a dystopian future and that one's more alt leaning and heavier/rock. That sound was a huge part of my childhood too, though, considering My Chemical Romance is my favorite band of all time. Now, I would say that the stuff I'm working on is not specifically inspired by one thing but a massive bowl of chili that contains bits of everything I love. I would define the evolution of my music by saying that with every project, I get closer to the core of who I am and the things that sculpted me.

LUNA: Who have you been listening to lately?

MINOGUE: Clairo, The Marias, Magdalena Bay, Bad Bunny, Julio Iglesias, Jimi Hendrix, The Weeknd, Tommy Richman, Mk.gee, Kendrick Lamar

LUNA: What are you most excited about for your SXSW set this year?

MINOGUE: I'm excited to make some friends and see a bunch of sets. Tear up some BBQ! Trynna just have fun and not be too serious.

LUNA: What can attendees expect from your sets?

MINOGUE: This will be one of the last shows that exists in the TV DINNER world so there will be some thematic / theatrical stuff happening and we'll make it real special :)

LUNA: What’s on your Austin to do list?

MINOGUE: Food, museums, maybe a water activity if it's nice, and just chillinnnnnnn.
