LUNA: Hi! How are you doing?

GIRL PARALLEL: I'm doing pretty well! It's crazy to see where this project has gone in the past year.

LUNA: When did music first become part of your life?

GIRL PARALLEL: While Girl Parallel is a relatively young project, music has always been a part of my life. My early stages of being a musician involve the piano and singing in the choir. I remember how overjoyed I was when I first got my hands on a guitar; I was absolutely over the moon. I was twelve then, and music has always been a special part of my life since.

LUNA: Can you talk about what inspired you to make this song?

GIRL PARALLEL: I started out by just making the beat on Garageband. I had recently gotten a MIDI keyboard that could be plugged into my phone, so I started laying out some synth sounds and I ended up really liking it! I then laid out a melody from there. I showed my producer the demo and then we got to work!

LUNA: How does your writing process usually go?

GIRL PARALLEL: Sometimes I will be inspired by a certain feeling in the moment and create a song from there. Other times I will have a specific song idea playing in my head, which I will try to recreate as close to as possible on a Garageband demo. Other times I might just be messing around and come across a creation that I end up really enjoying!

LUNA: How did making this single compare to previous projects?

GIRL PARALLEL: This song is more on the electronic side as opposed to my older projects which highlight more of an indie feel, but I am hoping to show more versatility in genres and my capabilities with future releases.

LUNA: What was your favorite part of making “LOSER”?

GIRL PARALLEL: My favorite part was making the beat itself on my phone and recording the vocals. I messed around with an autotune plugin to give the song more of the electronic vibe that I was going for. While some might argue that I don't need the autotune, this was the creative direction I chose to give the song a spacey feel. The goal of this song was to make the listener feel like they are riding in a spaceship.

LUNA: Who are some of your inspirations?

GIRL PARALLEL: This question is tricky; I feel like my inspiration stems from all over the place. I'm heavily inspired by Beach Bunny for the surf rock indie vibe, Tyler the Creator's synths sounds, SZA and Snoh Aalegra for their RNB vibes, and Gorillaz and MF Doom for their compelling visuals and lore.

LUNA: Do you have a favorite place you’ve performed or experience you’ve had creating music?

GIRL PARALLEL: My favorite shows I have played thus far have got to be at the Shakedown and The Karate Church. The music scene in Bellingham is always so welcoming and fun.

LUNA: What’s next for Girl Parallel? Any upcoming plans?

GIRL PARALLEL: I'm writing some more music right now and seeing where that takes me. I also have plans to bring more of my electronic music to light to further demonstrate the variety in types of music that I am able to create. I have some plans for a second album as well that will take place in SPACE! But we don't have to talk about that just yet...

LUNA: Is there anything else you’d like to share?

GIRL PARALLEL: Don't be afraid to just go for it! You don't have to stick to one genre or style of music. If you have a new and innovative idea, it deserves to be shared with the world!
