CREATING A SOFT, NOSTALGIC WORLD FOR US TO STEP INTO - Indigenous Mexican American R&B artist Flores dazzles us with her new visualizer for “Fool’s Gold”. Each note radiates an element of emotion in the most elegant way, with the visualizer highlighting the charming flow of the track. Teaming up with longtime collaborator, writer and producer Maths Time Joy, Flores takes us through the emotional journey of leaving love when it just might not be worth it anymore. Raised in El Paso, Texas, Flores has allowed her cultural upbringing to fuel her passion to write about topics from immigration and cultural identity to gender roles.

Flores keeps the listener holding onto each note thanks to her perfect balance of powerful vocals at the center stage that layer effortlessly with groovy instrumental. Her vocals quickly grab your heart within the first few seconds of the song, and are quickly followed with a guitar line that is sure to get you in your feels. The soulful track serves as an introduction to her upcoming project, out in 2022.

Acknowledging the value of the visual side of her music, Flores has dived fully in to creating dreamy visual scapes like that of “Fool’s Gold”. Though seemingly simple, the video reflects Flores’ tasteful ability to find the balance between blank space and something special to keep you hooked, much like she does with her music. Check out our premiere of the “Fool’s Gold” visualizer and read below to learn more about the making of the video, what the final month has in store for Flores and more.

LUNA: Congrats on the release of “Fool’s Gold”! I love the vintage feel of the video - can you share a favorite moment from the making of the “Fools Gold”?

FLORES: “Fool’s Gold” is a visualiser, which are such cool ways to create ambiance for a song. My favorite moment while creating this was getting a bit more comfortable in front of a camera and working with my best friend on it. I think that these up-front and center moments are really daunting for me, so getting out of my shell and embracing myself is always a good moment.

LUNA: Your visuals have always been really on point. What do you like about bringing the visual side of your work to life?

FLORES: The visuals have definitely made me a student of film, the complexities of film is incredible. Bringing the visuals to life, has added more depth and context to each song. I am proud to have been able to be a part of the creative process for those aspects and a part of the filming.

LUNA: How has your cultural background shaped your visual aesthetic?

FLORES: I think my cultural background has influenced both physically that it is important to see more brown indigenous women in front of cameras, but that also moving between my indigeneity and my modernity as a young American in the modern world. I know that those things are interplayed in my current visuals as well as those to come.

LUNA: Outside of music, what has been inspiring you lately?

FLORES: You know what has actually inspired me lately, is this new show called ‘Acapulco’ on Apple TV. Every single scene is so meticulously shot, it's absolutely beautiful, vibrant oranges and yellows, teal and pinks. It is not only a beautiful story, but each scene is almost like a Mexico meets Wes Anderson film.

LUNA: The track touches on the idea of abandoning love when it’s too much. Lyrically, what set of lyrics are you most proud of in “Fool’s Gold”?

FLORES: I think I'm proud of the entire song, lyrically at its cohesive flow. I feel like it's hard to pick what my favorite line is, certainly the hook is the most fun to sing. Just the doneness to it, I feel it's empowering to sing.

LUNA: What intentions do you have for the final month of 2021?

FLORES: So far this year, I have taken big risks, ambitious plans for 2022, have a great team that I'm working with, and I think my intentions closing this year is being more grateful than ever for the hard work, love and heart that my team has invested in this.  Pride and gratitude are all that come to mind.
