LOVELY AND LIMITLESS — Faouzia’s new single, “Hero,” showcases her self-expressive songwriting skills and impressive vocal range. Radiating with confidence, Faouzia’s track dives into the reciprocity in relationships, enhancing the foundation of self-love before transcending into love for others. “I wrote ‘Hero’ late one night while taking a break from studying for my exams,” Faouzia shares. “Thematically, the song discusses having fair and reasonable expectations from the love you give and receive in a relationship or a friendship. It's a two-way street and any healthy relationship needs both sides to be supportive of each other.” Faouzia hopes that “Hero” can help listeners hold true to their self-worth. This track is both uplifting and empowering,  asking listeners to choose to be their own hero.

The 21-year-old Morocan-Candian artist also showcases her versatility in her music video for “Hero.” The visual highlights Faouzia’s earth-shattering vocals, effortless choreography, and creative direction. As the music video unfolds, Faouzia battles a series of video game villains single-handedly. Through incorporating fairy tale and video game elements, these visuals emphasize Faouzia as her own hero, thus promoting the central message of her single.

LUNA: Hi Faouzia! Thank you so much for taking the time to participate in this interview. I’d like to first congratulate you on your new single, “Hero.” Is there a favorite memory or moment from making this track?

FAOUZIA: My favorite memory from the whole process of bringing Hero to life was definitely filming the music video. Planning the looks for the four elements and having a video that could showcase a side of me that was full of life was so exciting.

LUNA: What was your inspiration when it came to writing “Hero”? What was the creative process like?

FAOUZIA: I wrote “Hero” about setting healthy boundaries in your friendships and relationships. I have been in many situations where my friendships have felt very one-sided and it’s left me so drained. Over the past year I’ve learned to have people in my life that I know love will go both ways with.

LUNA: What do you hope listeners gain from “Hero”? Is there anything you are personally taking away from this single?

FAOUZIA: I hope listeners gain a sense of confidence in themselves and know that at the end of the day, they are their own hero. Self-love is so important, and I would say the most important. Once you love yourself, you can love someone else and accept the love that you deserve.

LUNA: I am OBSESSED with the music video for “Hero”! I love how it merges two worlds together: fantasy and video games. What role did you have in this visual?

FAOUZIA: When I read the treatment, I was so obsessed with the concept of utilizing all elements in the music video. I thought it would be cool to add an extra layer and have each element be a level in a video game that needed to be beat. The director and I sat down and talked about how important it was that the message that came across in this video is that I was my own hero, and for watchers to interpret it that way by putting themselves in my shoes.

LUNA: What was your experience like with the choreography for the music video?

FAOUZIA: It was my first video doing a group choreo! I learned the dance in a few hours and the other dancers came by a little later. Once we started putting both parts together, I got so giddy since everyone flowed so beautifully. The dancers were so talented and kind and made the experience even more enjoyable. The choreographer definitely knew how to make me feel comfortable and worked around what looked best.

LUNA: In terms of who you are personally, if you could describe yourself in three words, what would they be?

FAOUZIA: Creative, passionate, loving.

LUNA: At 21 years old, your wisdom and talent exceeds far beyond your age. Is there any word of advice you have for those who are pursuing a career in music?

FAOUZIA: I would say to stick to your gut and what makes you REALLY excited. When I’m writing or performing, the best moments come when they are with projects that I am really excited about. Those are the projects that keep me up at night and make me want to go the extra mile. Many people are going to try to tell you who you are or who you should be, but it will never work as well when it’s something you know you’re not. Whether it’s a song, a video, or an idea that you’re not comfortable with, do not do it. All that said, make sure to also step out of your comfort zone when you are ready and in ways that do not go against who you are at the core.

LUNA: A fun one: What animal best represents who you are and why?

FAOUZIA: I think the animal that describes me best is probably a cat. I don’t know if I’m biased because I’m obsessed with cats ;)

LUNA: Thank you again for sharing with us — I’m so excited for what you will do next! With that being said, are there any upcoming projects that you are working on or would like to share with us?

FAOUZIA: I’m on a writing trip right now and I have been so extremely excited about the music I’ve been writing. It truly feels like my project is falling into place and I am ready for it to be complete so I can share my first project with the world.
