LUNA: Your new single "Lonely Heart" explores heartbreak and self-empowerment. What personal experiences shaped the raw emotions in this song?
DORIN: When first creating this song and it’s idea, I started exploring the lingering feelings of my past relationships.
It’s fascinating to me, thinking about someone who hurt you that for some reason you can’t get over.
Knowing someone is bad for your heart and then finding yourself still picking up the phone when they show up again.
I found myself needing to be completely honest and share this almost embarrassing feeling - “I know I’m gonna get hurt, but I still want him”
LUNA: "Lonely Heart" is more than just a heartbreak anthem. How does the song navigate the journey towards self-discovery?
DORIN: “Lonely Heart” takes you on a journey, though it’s fun to talk about the heartbreak, it was important for me to express that freedom too, of letting go and beginning to move on. “The time goes by, I know that I’m supposed to go through what I do”, it’s my real life experience. I believe everything happens for a reason, the failures, the pain and heartbreaks too. I have to move on, it could be that he’ll always be on my mind in someway, but I’m no longer that girl who followed him around, I’m bravely following my own path now.
LUNA: My Way comes out on April 26th. Can you share a sneak peek at some of the other themes explored in the EP?
DORIN: So we started strong with the heartbreak, but It can’t end there, right ?
While exploring yourself after a toxic relationship, it doesn’t hurt to have a little fun - actually, it’s very recommended.
“My Way” EP travels from self empowerment, to fresh exciting love, to feeling like your best self. All wrapped up and sprinkled with Glitter.
LUNA: At a young age, you participated in "The Voice" Israel. How did that experience influence your decision to pursue music full-time?
DORIN: What a lot of people don’t know is how incredibly insecure I was at that time, it’s something you don’t always see on the screen but I definitely remember exactly how that felt. The Voice was my first experience with the big industry, television etc.
It was a big step for me to overcome those fears, and that by itself is a huge lesson I gained over time. The ability to rise above what my mind thinks is impossible for me.
Being a kid on a reality show isn’t easy and is not for everyone, I always knew that music is where I’m meant to be, and that was definitely ther first kickstart that led me to where I’m at today.
LUNA: Moving to Los Angeles is a brave leap. What challenges did you face, and what rewards came from pursuing music in a new city?
DORIN: Something that I always love circling back to is that saying of “moving to Los Angeles was extremely brave”. I get it from my friends, my family, my fans & social media followers.
For some reason, I could never fully resonate with that, and what I started to understand is that bravery for me is throwing yourself in the big scary water, and I feel like moving to Los Angeles was perhaps something that set me free.
Growing up, I taught myself English watching TV and listening to music, almost as if I knew that I’m gonna move to America one day and follow this huge dream.
I know that it’s big, I appreciate myself for doing that and taking that step, but once I realized that it’s possible for me, nothing could’ve made the decision of moving any easier.
Ever since I moved, of course I faced challenges like one does, extending my limits and self beliefs and it’s all just one big amazing work.
I wrote my best songs here and worked with the most talented people, I now I’m so grateful to have an audience to release these songs to.
LUNA: Your captivating covers on TikTok have garnered millions of views. How did you choose these songs, and how did they connect with fans?
DORIN: TikTok definitely teaches me a lot, and I’m so happy that I get to touch so many hearts with my voice. it all began when I started exploring what sort of videos “do best” and get the most support. what I’ve learned is that people enjoyed hearing me sing while watching me do something interesting.
I started with singing while doing my make up, or making a drink, and what always drew people the most is me singing while making coffee.
So slowly but surely it became my niche, and people from all over the world and all ages request hundreds of songs every week, and I simply choose my covers from peoples requests.
What’s fun is that they already know me and they always ask for the songs that fit me perfectly.
LUNA: Who are some musical influences that have shaped your sound and songwriting?
DORIN: I started writing songs when I was 12 about random things and my fantasy nonexisting love life, listening to female singers like Avril Lavigne, Britney and Miley Cyrus in my bedroom.
I never felt (or feel now) that I am influenced by other singers in my song-writing, but I admire the road and style of many - Billie Eilish, Dua Lipa, Ariana Grande, Madison beer, Sabrina Carpenter… and I think we can definitely see something in common with these pop icons.
LUNA: Looking ahead, what intentions do you have for the upcoming season?
DORIN: First and foremost, Given that this year is the one a lot of my debut materials are coming out, my first ever EP and more live shows- I’m gonna make it count the best way I can, work my hardest, And introduce myself to the world in the way that they remember.
I am so excited to see my fans on my live shows, play my new music and get everyone’s reactions on the new material I’ve been working on, with features and many more surprises…
I have a pretty clear plan of what I intend to achieve, but I can’t wait to see what this crazy universe throws at me, because what I’ve learned about myself in this journey, is that I’m up for anything.
