DAISY GUTTRIDGE IS FINALLY LETTING HER VOICE BE HEARD - Guttridge left London for Los Angeles and has become an unstoppable force. In the last three years, she has worked with countless A-List artists, including Vicetone and Hippie Sabotage, gaining experience and insight that set her up to release her first solo record. Highs, an EP, will be released in the upcoming months.

The EP is something that Guttridge hopes challenges listeners’ perceptions of what Pop Music should be. The first single off of the album “I found u”, blends her soulful voice and lighthearted lyrics with soulful instrumentals that remind us of those first feelings of a new love – it’s a track that leaves listeners wanting more. Guttridge told us that she sets out to tell genuine stories with her music; she has done just that, with impeccable presence. She presents listeners with vulnerability beneath the alt-pop sounds.

Guttridge has wasted no time getting 2022 started. She is currently on tour with Hippie Sabotage and will be soon releasing an music video for her latest release “Skin” to give us more of a peek into the upcoming album. Below we chat about life on tour, collaborations and more.

LUNA: Hey Daisy, thanks for taking the time to chat! How has tour been treating you so far?

GUTTRIDGE: Tour has been absolutely incredible so far! After not being able to play live shows for 2 years it feels so good to be back on a stage, I’m having a blast!

LUNA: What’s been your favorite song to perform live?

GUTTRIDGE: I would have to say it’s one of my forthcoming songs, “Heartstrings”. The energy in that track is really special; there is a moment where I ask the crowd to put their phones in the air during the chorus and it’s a real pinch me moment. Seeing the whole room light up really pumps me up and people have been loving that record at the shows!

LUNA: Congrats on the upcoming release of “Skin”! Can you share a favorite moment from the creative process of the track?

GUTTRIDGE: My producer Tk Kayembe and I started that idea over lockdown on Zoom, so when we could finally get into the studio it was a really great moment because I was so excited to work in person again and finish the song! It came together super quickly, we didn’t overthink anything and genuinely had a great time making the record. I think that translates when you listen to “Skin”.

LUNA: Your visuals always really match the vibe of your music. What can you share about the upcoming music video for “Skin”?

GUTTRIDGE: Thank you! I worked with my director Dan to bring “Skin” to life, and wanted to reflect the nonchalant way the song came together creatively. I wanted the video to feel as free and playful as the record is. Artistically we drew influence from Italian fashion photographer Davide Sorrenti, emulating the grunge and youthfulness often portrayed in his work.

LUNA: What music video inspires you the most?

GUTTRIDGE: Recently, I watched Big Sean’s video for “What A Life”. I like when artists take themselves out of their comfort zones, so I loved the scenes of him sitting candidly in an arm chair with hundreds of bees on his face and body. The artistic vision and shock value in that video was incredible.

LUNA: Marc E. Bassy is on this track which is awesome - how did this collaboration shape the feel of the track? What do you like about working with others?

GUTTRIDGE: Marc really killed his verse, he has a soulful R&B vibe which added another dimension to this pop record. I love how our voices sound blended together in the pre chorus. Personally I think creating art is never as fun alone. When you can bounce ideas off other creatives that's when you get magic.

LUNA: You’ve got your debut EP coming up soon, so how would you compare the feel of The Highs to the 2 singles you’ve released so far?

GUTTRIDGE: The Highs EP continues on the playful stories I describe in “I found u” and “Skin”. It embodies the youthful energy of having fun and falling in love for the first time.

LUNA: Is there a common theme or narrative you’re most drawn to with new music?

GUTTRIDGE: For me, I’m always interested in pushing the boundaries of what people understand pop music to be. My goal is to share genuine stories from my life whilst challenging the definition of what “pop” should look and sound like.

LUNA: You’re kicking off 2022 on a great note, so what intentions do you have for the upcoming months?

GUTTRIDGE: I have created some of the best music of my career this past year and honestly can’t wait for the world to hear it. Looking forward to dropping more music, visuals and unexpected collaborations in the future.
