Q&A: Cosmo's Demos Is The New Indie Artist You Need In Your Life

IF YOU’RE LOOKING FOR A NEW CHARMING INDIE ARTIST TO FALL IN LOVE WITH - Cosmo’s Demos has got you covered. The NYC-based artist elegantly combines his charming vocals with smooth instrumentals with a perfect amount of flair to keep you holding onto each note. Debuting with his “Electraaa Demos” project in 2018, Cosmo’s Demos has since expanded his discography with smooth tracks that seem to sweep you off into his world. Reminiscent of The Internet, Steve Lacy and King Krule, his music has an element of groove and experimentation to keep it fresh.

Though originally Cosmo’s Demos got into music via rap in middle school, he found himself drawn to the indie scene by high school and gained the confidence to sing. His signature style of beautiful chords with distorted vocals and relatable lyrics make for an easy listening experience that pulls your heart just the right amount.

Cosmo’s latest single “STM” serves as an incredible addition to his catalog and showcases the artist’s growth in production and vocal strength as a whole. Read below to learn more about the new track, what’s been inspiring him lately and more.

LUNA: For those unfamiliar with your work, would you mind introducing yourself?

COSMO’S DEMOS: My name is Cosmo’s Demos, cosmo for short. I make a fusion of Rap, R&B, and Indie. And I be in NYC or Broward/Miami most of the time.

LUNA: Congrats on the release of “STM”! How are you feeling about this release?

COSMO’S DEMOS: I’m feeling pretty good - the people who care like it so that’s sick.

LUNA: Can you share a little bit about the making of “STM”?

COSMO’S DEMOS: It was pretty regular I guess. I make everything in my room for the most part.

LUNA: You first got into music by rapping in middle school and overtime transitioned to a more indie feel. How did that evolution come about?

COSMO’S DEMOS: My confidence grew! I was deathly afraid to sing in front of anyone and I don’t know why. I also went through a shift in taste during 10th grade to more Indie and Alternative music.

LUNA: Sonically, what are some of your favorite elements of your music that you’ve been working on?

COSMO’S DEMOS: I think the blend of distortion and beauty is what I’m most focused on. Heavy bass and drums with pretty chords.

LUNA: What are some common themes or narratives you’ve been drawn to lately?

COSMO’S DEMOS: Self improvement. I’m really focused on being the best me. That’s probably the one thing I would want a listener to take from anything I make.

LUNA: In addition to making your music you direct and edit your videos. Why is it important for you to take such a hands-on approach with your work?

COSMO’S DEMOS: I got trust issues. I also think that’s the best way to get the most authentic art. If the music and the visual aren’t synced I don’t know man eww.

LUNA: Visually, what have you been inspired by these days?

COSMO’S DEMOS: Anime, skate vids, jdm drifting, and go-karts! My whole being is fast pace and beauty.

LUNA: What do you hope the next few months have in store for you?

COSMO’S DEMOS: Meeting new people and doing a lot more performances and overall being the best me.
