Q&A: One to Watch, Claud Releases Single “Every Fucking Time” Alongside Sophomore Album Announcement
☆ BY Sophia Garcia ☆
THE LATEST ARTIST TO WATCH POSSESSES A SPECIFIC TALENT — Claud portrays true human emotions in a raw way that leaves the listener feeling understood in their shared experience. The artist’s latest singles are no exception.
“Every Fucking Time” tells the story of an arguing couple. The protagonist wonders if their partner is full of broken promises and what it means if they believe every one of those promises. The single perfectly encapsulates the feeling of insecurity and overthinking that goes into a relationship that you are desperate to make work for one reason or another.
Produced immaculately, the song is not only lyrically strong with relatable lyrics that immediately set a scene but is also rhythmically catchy with beautiful strumming guitar. Claud’s bedroom-pop sound is also evident within the single, a sound they have carried through in their upcoming album, Supermodels, as well. Scheduled to drop on July 14, the sophomore album is made up of 13 songs filled with Claud’s personal diary entry–style of writing. This style makes their music feel vulnerable and real, something that must have been evident for them to become the first signee to Phoebe Bridgers’s Saddest Factory Records.

LUNA: Absolutely loving the sound of your single, “Every Fucking Time.” Can you tell me a little bit about what inspired this track?
CLAUD: Thank you! I wanted to write a song that captured the feeling of not wanting to trust someone fully for no reason other than your past experiences.
LUNA: How are you feeling now that the track is out?
CLAUD: I am super happy this song is out, but I’m feeling especially excited for people to be able to listen to it in the context of the whole album this summer.
LUNA: What was one of your favorite memories while creating this song?
CLAUD: I recorded an acoustic demo of “Every Fucking Time” in the summer of 2021, and then listened back an entire year later and was like, “Oh shit, this is special.” That moment was so exciting because it was like finding buried treasure. It was such a minimal demo but there was so much to work with.
LUNA: Your lyrics are so vivid and fully transport you to a scene. Do you have a favorite lyric in the single? Why is it your favorite?
CLAUD: I definitely think “and we argued about Regina Spektor, I said I loved her but you think she could be better” is my favorite line in the song. In real life, it seems like such a small detail but actually represents so much more.
LUNA: Your previous singles and albums have all been well received by fans and critics alike, with over 900K-plus listeners on Spotify! What about you and your music do you think resonates so deeply with so many people?
CLAUD: Every time I’ve led with honesty and vulnerability, it has never failed me.
LUNA: Another congratulations is due for your sophomore album, Supermodels, which you just announced. How does the process of creating this album compare to your previous albums?
CLAUD: The process of creating Supermodels wasn’t that far off from how I made my first album, Super Monster. It started with me writing and recording demos at home and then bringing them into a studio and flushing them out further. A few of the songs came from collaborations and writing sessions as well.
LUNA: You’ve shared that Supermodels is very personal to you, likening it to a diary entry. Do you think songwriting and creating functions as a way for you to process emotion?
CLAUD: Songwriting is 100% how I process emotion. Sometimes I don’t even know I’m feeling a certain way until way later when I listen back to a song I wrote at that time. It’s the weirdest thing.
LUNA: There is a nostalgic, almost comforting sound to your music, even when you are speaking of heartbreak in “Every Fucking Time.” Can we expect more of this sound in the rest of your album?
CLAUD: “Every Fucking Time” is definitely a good representation of the feeling the rest of the album conveys. Sonically, Supermodels is a blend of genres, but thematically it is pretty consistent.
LUNA: What made you want “Every Fucking Time” to be your upcoming albums lead single?
CLAUD: I wanted to start with a song I felt like my pre-existing fans would connect with the most. You can never predict what people will like more, but my gut feeling was that this song was accessing a part of me I haven’t yet shown to the people who actively listen to my music and follow my career, and that was motivating and exciting to me.
LUNA: You are also touring with boygenius during their North America Tour, how exciting! What is your favorite part of touring and performing in general?
CLAUD: I am so excited to open for boygenius this summer. The Record is becoming one of my favorite albums of all time, and I feel so lucky to be able to open these shows. My favorite part of touring in general is being able to actually see what the folks who are listening to my music online are like in real life! Every show has a completely different energy that’s entirely made up by the people in the audience, and experiencing that every night is really fun.
LUNA: It’s already such a busy year for you, with an album coming out and a tour in the books. What other plans do you have for the rest of the year?
CLAUD: Supermodels comes out July 14 with an acoustic UK tour to follow later that month, then a full-blown North American tour starting in September. I can’t wait.
