WITH AN ABILITY TO TRANSLATE CHAOS INTO CHARMING AND SMOOTH TUNES - carolesdaughter brings a note of elegance to her tracks. Her latest track “Violent” speaks on the toxicity of a relationship, allowing the listener to grab onto the unfortunate familiar feeling and find validation through her song. Paired with a new music video showcasing the contrast of the soft, beautiful nature in the track with the more haunting aspect, “Violent” has a dash of everything. At only 18 years old, Thea Taylor has been making waves since the release of her debut song “PORCELAIN JESUS” with webneversleeps in 2020.

Finding herself on a troubled path in her teens, Taylor used rehab as an opportunity to turn to music. Fans have quickly grown to adore the raw and sincere approach Taylor has to her music, often showcasing personal topics. Now committed to this creative pursuit, the artist is ready to take on 2021 and get more music out there. Read below to learn more about the making of “Violent”, the evolution of their music and more.

LUNA: Congrats on the release of “Violent”! How are you feeling about this release?

TAYLOR: It’s been surreal. I love being able to connect with so many people and to hear that it has helped my listeners get through hard times gives me a really good feeling. I’m so grateful for the opportunities this song has opened for me and beyond excited to create more.

LUNA: People love your music because it’s very real and the listener can tell it’s coming from the heart, including “Violent”. Can you share a bit about the making of the track?

TAYLOR: I wrote it in my bedroom in about 30 minutes and recorded it right then and there on my Apple headphones. It came from a really raw place and felt like I kinda just threw up the lyrics. It was inspired by me being upset over some relationship but it incorporates a lot of experiences. At first I wasn’t even crazy about the song because the quality on my phone was so bad but after my friend ketchup mixed it for me I listened to it for the first time and then didn’t turn it off for months LOL

LUNA: Sonically, how have you seen your music evolve with your more recent music?

TAYLOR: There’s a really big learning curve coming from playing the guitar and writing songs in my room to working with other people and recording on beats for internet music. I’ve seen myself try something completely new almost every song as far as incorporating sounds from different genres I love. It may come off as chaotic or not knowing what my genre is but I think my most defining talent is my writing, and I love that I can bring my writing to almost any type of music and make art.

LUNA: We’ve definitely seen a shift in the role that labels have in response to this DIY age. This is your first release with Sony/Arista Records, so what value do you feel labels still have?

TAYLOR: I was actually really wary of signing at first but my team works really hard every day to find me opportunities and make my crazy visions a reality. I feel like it’s a relationship like any other based on communication and trust. the music industry is a whole new world to navigate for me and fortunately, I feel like my label is helping me rather than shaping me.

LUNA: The video for “Violent” is really well done and has such a feel to it. What do you like about working on the visual side of your music?

TAYLOR: The video shoot was probably the funnest day I’ve ever had in my life. Working with other people that are so extremely talented and have their own unique style and being able to collab and create something neither of us could do on our own.

LUNA: What’s been inspiring you lately?

TAYLOR: Myself

LUNA: You’ve openly spoke about your experience with rehab and the role music has played in your recovery. What advice do you have for those struggling but don’t know how to help themselves?

TAYLOR: I think the most defining characteristic of any addiction is the isolation it brings. The belief that no one around you could understand or feel the way you do. The secrecy and lies to keep your addiction will eventually take everything good from you. My only advice would be to just be honest. Reach out for community and support it’s exactly what your addiction doesn’t want you to do.

LUNA: A fun one - if you could have any superpower what would you choose & why?

TAYLOR: I would choose the superpower of writing hit songs in mere MINUTES... oh wait ....

LUNA: As the year winds down, what do you hope the upcoming months have in store for you?

TAYLOR: I hope in the upcoming months I can just take things as they come. I’m learning something new about music and being an artist every day being signed so my hope is that I’m able to feel more established as an artist and really immerse myself into my work.
