WHEN CAPYAC PASSED OF THEIR TRACK, “TAKE ME CLOSER” — to Mexican duo CLUBZ, a smooth and funky flair was added. This synthwave-inspired flip marks the third remix from CAPYAC’s second album debut, CAPYAC FOREVER. CLUBZ’s remix of “Take Me Closer” embodies their signature sound of a nostalgic ’80s and ’90s vibe, thus bringing forth a new take on CAPYAC’s album with a unique lens. While both the original track and the remix for “Take Me Closer '' encapsulate a fresh, feel-good energy, CLUBZ’s remix takes a more sensual approach to the upbeat track. With CLUBZ’s full creative direction, CAPYAC is delighted with the original remix that they produced.

Composed of the iconic duo P. Sugz (Eric Peana) and Potion (Delwin Campbell), with their fun, lively, and eccentric characters, CAPYAC is unique beyond measure. Their music blends elements of disco, house, and funk, producing a universal sound that’s magnetic to all listeners. CAPYAC’s musical prowess is marked by their “cutting-edge sound design and serious attention to the technical details of what makes dance music so extraordinary.” In addition to their musical aptitude, CAPYAC showcases their creativity and originality as performers. CAPYAC’s performances incorporate both planned and spontaneous dance troupes, collaborations, and on-the-nose tomfoolery. Taking a theatrical approach, CAPYAC’s on-stage presence is sensational and unforgettable.

LUNA: Congratulations on releasing the remix for your track, “Take Me Closer,” by CLUBZ. It has such a groovy, eccentric, and feel-good energy! Do you have any takeaways on your third remix?

CAPYAC: This remix was particularly interesting because CLUBZ took the track in a completely unexpected direction. Always happy to be surprised — I think they really took a cool take on the original.

LUNA: Would you be willing to elaborate on the creative process for your “Take Me Closer” remix?

CAPYAC: The remix itself was entirely CLUBZ. We gave zero direction or notes as far as what we wanted. [We] just let them do what they do best.

LUNA: How does this “Take Me Closer” remix compare to your original track?

CAPYAC: Overall feel/vibe is the major difference.

LUNA: Your stage names, P. Sugz and Potion, truly reflect your character and liveliness. How did you come up with them, along with your band’s name, CAPYAC?

CAPYAC: They just came one day in what seemed to be a beam of creative light from above.

LUNA: How has your nationwide tour been treating you? Any special moments or memories along the way?

CAPYAC: Tour has been good! Our NYC show was pretty epic. At one point we had the crowd Google a photo of a burger and hold it up in the air. Within a few seconds there were hundreds of burgers floating in front of us. It was great.

LUNA: You have such a theatrical presence on stage with your costumes, dance troupes, collaborations, and on-the-nose tomfoolery. How do you execute this performance? Are there any preparations or set intentions?

CAPYAC: Each show is different. We like to plan everything and then just kind of wing it.

Sometimes the best part is completely spontaneous. Delwin takes a keyboard solo with his nose. Other times we have a planned skit with multiple characters and a set flown in. All of a sudden, we are transported to a game show scene called “So You Want To Be A Virgin Sacrifice,” and Delwin is the game show host.

LUNA: You have such a unique and groovy sound, breathing a new life into disco, house, and everything in between. Where do you gain inspiration for your music?

CAPYAC: Delwin is a major music head. He is constantly listening to new music and cataloging it on his Spotify. Check his profile Kkoro for the best playlists around. For me, I’m currently finding inspiration through storytelling. Calvino, Gibson, Sontag, and random strangers I meet at work telling stories.

LUNA: What advice do you have for artists who are stuck in a creative block?

CAPYAC: Go for a walk, listen to the sounds you make just doing normal stuff, wear earplugs for eight hours then take them out while watching the sunset, read the Rilke’s duino elegies aloud to yourself.

LUNA: A fun one: what animal best represents you and why?

CAPYAC: I see myself currently identifying with a barn owl.

LUNA: Thank you so much for taking the time to share with us — it’s such a pleasure to chat with you! On a final note, do you have any upcoming projects that you are working on? Any plans for the new year?

CAPYAC: Absolutely, thank you! We have some live videos of our full band playing songs off the latest album coming out soon that we are excited about. Also, [we have] an epic show in Austin called Bug Prom happening January 15. Everything else is a major secret — let's see how it unravels.
