Q&A: BIZZY Unveils Heartbreak Chronicles in 'I Don't Get Breakups'
BIZZY UNVEILS HERS DEBUT EP, I Don't Get Breakups, a poignant six-track journey chronicling her first heartbreak. Each song is meticulously ordered to mirror the chronological progression of her emotional recovery, from the initial reluctance to let go in "Just Yet" to the bold acceptance anthem, "I Don't Get Breakups." The diaristic nature of BIZZY's songwriting transforms each track into a chapter, offering listeners an intimate glimpse into her healing process.
In an exclusive interview, BIZZY reflects on the therapeutic nature of creating the EP, describing how it allowed her to revisit her songs from a standpoint of healing and growth. A pivotal moment in her career is marked by her recent signing to Big Loud Rock, a partnership she describes as a dream come true. The impact of this collaboration is anticipated to bring fresh perspectives and ideas to her already genre-blurring approach.
BIZZY's unique sound, influenced by icons like Taylor Swift, Julia Michaels, and Rainbow Kitten Surprise, is characterized by authenticity. She pens every song straight from her journal, creating a genuine connection with her audience. As "I Don't Get Breakups" prepares for its debut, BIZZY hopes listeners not only enjoy the catchy hooks but also grasp the overarching storyline—the EP is a curated journey through the stages of grief, inviting everyone to find solace in their own experiences.
With upcoming visuals and two exciting projects in the pipeline, BIZZY is poised to make a lasting mark in the alt-pop landscape.
LUNA: I Don’t Get Breakups is your debut EP and a journey from heartbreak to recovery. Could you tell us more about the themes and emotions you've explored in this collection of songs?
BIZZY: Yes! I Don’t Get Breakups follows the ending of one of my relationships and the process of grieving and acceptance. I put the songs in the order I wrote them, starting with “Just Yet”. My relationship had just ended but I was still wanting him back and wasn't at all ready to accept that it was fully over. I end the first round of the EP with “I Don’t Get Breakups,” which is kind of my stamp of approval at the end of a long letter, explaining so blatantly that I don’t understand what the heck just happened, yet here I am.
LUNA: Your music is known for its diaristic songwriting approach. How has writing these songs served as a form of catharsis for you, and what has been the most rewarding part of sharing such personal experiences with your audience?
BIZZY: This whole process of writing the EP has been so incredibly healing. It allowed me to revisit these songs from a different point of view, one where I was no longer in the thought of the hurt. I was able to let go of the pain that I felt, and appreciate all the good that came from it.
LUNA: Which track are you most proud of?
BIZZY: I’m most proud of “I Don’t Get Breakups” because the process of writing and producing this one was so tough to fully wrap my head around. We went through so many different versions to get to this one, and I just LOVE how it turned out!
LUNA: Congrats on signing to Big Loud Rock! How do you think this will impact your upcoming work?
BIZZY: Ahhhhh! Thank you!!! Big Loud has truly been a dream come true. To be honest, I never saw myself signing a record deal this early in my career, but they just checked every box and more. I think being a part of their team will and already has just made me a better musician and person all around. They help me level up everything I’m doing and always bring new and fresh ideas to the table.
LUNA: Your music embodies the alt-pop genre. What are some musical influences that have played a significant role in shaping your sound, and what do you think sets your music apart in this genre?
BIZZY: Ooooo I love this question! A huge musical influence for me and many people my age is Taylor Swift. She’s the reason I picked up a guitar in the first place, and has just always been such an inspiration to me from how she writes all the way to how she handles herself in the media. I also am such a fan of Julia Michaels and Rainbow kitten Surprise. They both have such unique sounds. Julia with her lyrics being so incredibly intricate and unique, and RKS with the live authentic production around their music. Ahhh I just love them all.
I think what sets my music apart is two things: 1) it’s all completely true, I never really write songs that aren't straight out of my journal. Whether that’s for better or worse, I’m not sure (lol). 2) I think that my music is a mesh of so many different genres that it kind of has created its own lane, which I love!
LUNA: As you prepare to release "I Don’t Get Breakups," what do you hope your audience takes away from this EP?
BIZZY: I think the biggest thing I want them to take away is the story line. I put these songs in the exact order I wrote them, and if you listen in that order, you’ll hear the grieving process I went through after the break up. From denial all the way to acceptance. There’s a song for everybody!
LUNA: Any upcoming visuals or info you can tease?
BIZZY: Eeekkk yes I’ve got two fun visuals that are coming out for this project. Be sure to be on the look out!
