INTERVIEW

INTERVIEW

☆ BY PATTI DOUD ☆

IN THE MIDST OF THE ALMOST NEVER-ENDING BRAT ATTITUDE —with glittering, sweaty bodies and blurry club adventures streaked by the rising sun, BIG WETT has already established her force. Her wild live performances embody the neon lights and twinkling disco balls of the queer scene, with a perfectly crafted backtrack that every dirty mind wants.

While all bratty clubgoers must await BIG WETT’s sophomore body of work, RISK IT, which arrives to the rest of the world on April 25, they can boast their own sexy moves to her lead single, “PONY (RIDE ME).”

On the release of “PONY (RIDE ME),” BIG WETT explains,

“‘PONY (RIDE ME)’ was one of the first songs I wrote and started playing live back in the day. The OG fans have been begging for this song forever, and I couldn’t disappoint them, as ‘PONY’ is such an easy banger...I love the growing intensity of the whip cracks and the swirling synth at the end, signifying the peak of pleasure. Best enjoyed with a mate. You’re welcome, Wetties.”

BIG WETT talked more about this release with the Luna Collective, which you can read below.

LUNA: Can you tell us a bit about your journey into music (how you started creating, when you started releasing music, etc.), and how that start impacts how you make and release music now?

BIG WETT: I’ve always written short stories and also been into all kinds of music since forever, but had never really tried mixing the two. Then lockdown hit and I was locked in the house with a few musicians and one thing led to another. I never really planned to release any of the songs because they were so absurd, but I uploaded “EAT MY ASS” to Soundcloud while drunk after some encouragement from friends, and the internet loved it. And three years later here I am talking to you. It’s beautiful.

LUNA: I’ve been loving your releases that provide a sexy female perspective in the vibrant club scene (akin to The Dare and Shygirl). How do you decide what music to release and when?

BIG WETT: The EP coming out April 25, RISK IT, is dedicated to all the hedonists out there who want to have a good time no matter what. BIG WETT is all about forgetting your problems just for a second and letting yourself have fun. Some of these songs were written in lockdown and they really reflect that feeling of just wanting freedom again.

LUNA: You have a lot of insane, fun and unique performances, from strutting topless in gay clubs and sniffing poppers in the middle of a set, to dancing on checkered tile floors with fans. Where do you draw your inspiration for these live performances? Will we be lucky enough to see more of them this year?

BIG WETT: I started with a lot of planned stage gimmicks in my shows, but I think the longer I do it I like to keep the plan very loose because you can have more fun that way. Like that time I got excited and ripped off my shirt, which was not planned at all.

LUNA: For newer fans, what are some important things to know about you and your music? What’s up next for you?

BIG WETT: My music is for people who like having a good time only!!!! No boring people allowed! My next project RISK IT comes out April 25, which is seven songs dedicated to all my hedonists. I’ll be doing a tour for it in Australia, the UK and through Europe too, which I’m super excited for!

In a precarious time, there's a certain strength in expressing yourself unapologetically. Join BIG WETT on her journey to create a safe and wild ride for all by listening and connecting here!
