Premiere: Mothh Stuns Us With Enchanting “More Love, Calypso” Music Video
WITH LOVELY EMOTIONS AND SOFT, VELVETY VOCALS - Mothh debuts her music video for her latest single release, “More Love, Calypso”. A visually stunning production that feels almost straight out of an old Hollywood film, Mothh is able to put a face on her enchanting track. “More Love, Calypso” creates a feeling of butterflies in the listener’s head and body, it's a warm song about love and all the quirks that come with it, like longing for their kiss and being infatuated with their touch on your skin. Something very inspiring about Mothh is she's not afraid to love, maybe because like any true artist she knows it’ll be great material for their art one day, but in this song, she very honestly displays those emotions and how they are completely out of her hands and shes not ceasing them, instead welcoming them and giving her all.
When it comes to the music video, they were not afraid to take any risks! Mothh describes shooting the entire music video on Super 8 without any test runs to see if the camera would function. The results they got in return was absolutely breathtaking, a true cinematic masterpiece! From the beautiful shots in Venice, on a gondola with the renaissance architecture in the background, gardens, and shots on the beach. The use of movement and shadows to emphasize heartwarming lyrics that start off the song, “Our shadows touching on the sidewalk…” Mothh goes on to explain how she wanted to appear apart of the scene, as if she was painted onto the sequences that they filmed, which they executed effortlessly!
Read below to be formally introduced to Mothh and her bright, colorful personality and all she has to say about her music video debut. Be sure to check out the music video for “More Love, Calypso” as well as stay tuned for upcoming projects Mothh is up to.
LUNA: First off, thank you so much for your time! How are you doing? How’s life been treating you?
MOTHH: Thank YOU! Things are going swimmingly! That’s an old fashioned adverb I’d like to recirculate. Life’s been playing lots of jokes on me and spoiling me rotten.
LUNA: Let’s get into the music and visuals, what inspired you to create this particular song?
MOTHH: Falling in love too easily, being bicoastal, the beginning of a romance - the longer it takes me to write a song, the more people are included in the story, this one has notes to a few people I tried to love this year .
LUNA: Where did you look for inspiration when putting together your ideas for the music video?
MOTHH: I was inspired by the locations themselves. It was a process of painting myself into the scenes rather than the other way around. I’m always inspired by beauty that is timeless and spiritual and I think my reverence for the sacred comes through in my movement and connection with nature.
LUNA: What was the music video shot on? The graininess looks very film-like? Was it a difficult experience or genuinely fun to use something other than digital?
MOTHH: We shot on Super-8. It was more risky than it was difficult. We purchased the camera right before the trip and didn’t have time to test it. We didn’t get anything on digital to back it up, so we were a little on edge while the film was being developed.
LUNA: It all looks super soft, beautiful, and aesthetically pleasing, what kind of feeling did you want to project on to your audience when watching?
MOTHH: Thank you! The feeling I hope people experience is one of suspension. I want to create music that allows people to feel weightless and caressed.
LUNA: The wardrobe and makeup were absolutely stunning! What was your favorite look while shooting?
MOTHH: Thank you! All hail Sara on wardrobe. We had a lot of fun putting looks together but I have to say my vintage black velvet dress and YSL lipstick in Red Enigma for the gondola in Venice has to be my favorite thing I’ve worn all of 2021.
LUNA: Looking back on the production of the music video, what was your most memorable moment?
MOTHH: The day we spent on the gondola! It was just the most perfect day. The sun kissing us the whole afternoon, the turquoise of the water in the canals, the scene we caused! I love causing a scene.
LUNA: Before we let you go, any new upcoming projects that you’d like to share with us about?
MOTHH: I’m working on new music that I am really looking forward to sharing. I also have some visual projects incubating.
LUNA: Also, what’s something you’d like to complete before the end of the year? And what are you looking forward to at the start of 2022?
MOTHH: I’ve been on a journey of self acceptance all year and the love I’ve cultivated for myself and the people in my life is a beautiful reward. I’m happy to share that in the new year and to stay in a state of love. Really looking forward to collaborating with creatives in different cities, spending more time in New York, playing shows, seeing what Franklin gets into.
