Premiere: Budjerah Welcomes You To His Colorful World with "Get Down" Music Video

TRANSPORTING YOU INTO A WORLD OF COLOR AND A SENSE OF EASE - Budjerah gives us a temporary escape with his latest music video “Get Down”. Fresh off the release of his second EP Conversations, Budjerah continues to pave his path as an artist and gives us a taste of what we can expect as he grows.

With a catchy chorus quickly finding itself stuck in your brain on loop, “Get Down” showcases the Australian R&B artist’s smooth yet attention-grabbing vocals. While he may only be 20, Budjerah’s vocal range reaches far beyond his years, in an almost effortless way. Budjerah shares, “‘Get Down’ is about the idea that I’ve come so far now, I have to keep going, it’s too late to stop what I’m doing now. That song took a while to figure out, just because it was so different compared to what we've done before — But then, like one day, I think it just clicked.”

Since the start of the year the young artist has kept up a busy pace - beyond the release of his EP, Budjerah was listed as one of NME’s emerging artists for the year and is currently part of YouTube’s Black Voice Class. Budjerah will soon join Vance Joy for select US dates of this tour and has a handful of showcases, so make sure to catch him in a city near you.

LUNA: Congrats on the release of the “Getdown” music video! The visuals for this one are super vibey and I love the colors. Can you share your favorite moment from the making of the video?

BUDJERAH: My favourite moment from making the video was having the stars and butterflies projected onto me. It was a little hard because the light from the projector was shining right in my eyes, but it’s my favourite part of the clip visually.

LUNA: What role do you tend to play with the visual side of your work?

BUDJERAH: I love picking the colours to match the sound of the song - that’s what I build my visual ideas off, then I’ll find some people to collaborate with and bounce ideas around until we think we’re ready to put it together.

LUNA: Are there any other video plans for other tracks on the EP?

BUDJERAH: Not at the moment, but I would love to do a video for “My Name.” I’m not sure what it would be like yet and if we’ll get the chance to make one.

LUNA: You recently had your Conversations EP out - now that you’ve had a moment to enjoy the release, how are you feeling about this release as a whole?

BUDJERAH: I’m feeling really happy about it. When all the songs were finished I felt very satisfied with how they sounded and how everything came together. The week leading up to the release I was really nervous and felt a bit sick but now I’m having heaps of fun performing the songs live.

LUNA: What’s the ideal setting for a first listen of the project?

BUDJERAH: I think in the evening when it is nice and quiet. I suggest putting thirty minutes aside so you can listen from start to finish and in order. That’s the best way to experience it.

LUNA: Sonically, what were some of your favorite elements you got to explore?

BUDJERAH: I loved listening to synths when we were making these songs. I was never really into digital sounds but I felt like I was on a spaceship and like I was on an adventure through space and I found it really fun.

LUNA: You’ve got a lot of shows coming up, so which track from the project are you most excited to perform in a live setting?

BUDJERAH: I’m really excited to sing “Wash My Sorrows.” I have a lot of fun singing the melodies and the arrangement is a bit different live than on the studio track so it feels very fresh to me.

LUNA: With new music out and a tour, you’ve got a lot going on! What intentions do you have for the upcoming months?

BUDJERAH: For the next few months, I’m just doing shows and performing. Hopefully when I next have some time at home, I can get to work on some new music
