TRANSPORTING YOU TO A MOMENT OF CAREFREE ENERGY WITH A FEEL-GOOD SOUNDTRACK - Abby Bella May gives us the best elements of dream pop with her latest video “Wish We Could Be Friends”. The Sydney-based artist gets to show off her charming personality with a fun homemade video made with friends Summer King and Maya Mullins. Using various backdrops in her apartment and soaking up the sun in a park, May and team craft a sweet visual that allows the listener to feel like they’re hanging out with May and simply vibing to the track. Released last fall, “Wish We Could Be Friends” finds a perfect balance of alluring vocals and that upbeat indie-pop guitar feel we all can’t resist. The effortless flow of the track keeps the listener moving along while hanging onto the ever so catchy lyrics. “Wish We Could Be Friends” radiates that feeling of being young and careless while touching on the desire to be friends with an ex.

Inspired by artists like Clairo, Maggie Rogers and Benee, May joins the rising group of young female pop artists bringing a new flavor and creative approach to the industry. May crafts a dreamy soundscape with just enough pep to keep it fresh. The “Wish We Could Be Friends” video translates the longing energy of the track while maintaining a bouncy and groovy feel through each scene.

With one watch of “Wish We Could Be Friends” you’ll be dancing along with May and you’ll find the chorus stuck in your head all day. Read below to learn more about the making of the video and what’s next for Abby Bella May and check out the “Wish We Could Be Friends” video for a pick me up moment.

LUNA: Congrats on the release of the “Wish We Could Be Friends” music video! The video has such a fun feel to it and really matches the song itself. Can you share a bit about the making of the video?

MAY: Yeah! The beautiful Summer King and Maya Mullins were both the brains and creatives behind this video. I told them I just wanted a fun homemade video and so we set up different backdrops in my apartment and just used them as different "locations".

LUNA: Why is tapping into the visual side of your work important to you?

MAY: Music videos are one of my favourite parts of the process, tapping into the visual side is important to me because I'm able to work with other creatives who have amazing ideas that help me grow as a person and an artist and also I think its a super essential tool to express myself to the people taking the time out to listen to my music.

LUNA: Can you share a favorite moment/memory from filming?

MAY: Probably being outside with the disco ball, Summer asked me to walk far away and then stand still holding the disco ball up in the air while spinning it, it's not a favourite moment it's more of a funny moment because everyone in the park couldn't see summer filming all they saw was me, this chick randomly spinning a disco ball in the middle of the park haha.

LUNA: In 2019 and 2020 you put out a slew of singles that really let the listener get a sense of your soundscape. Sonically, what elements would you like to explore more in upcoming music?

MAY: Hmm, hard to say, I have a few different ideas and sounds I want to explore for sure, my favourite thing to do is to play live so I think ill be writing and creating songs while thinking about the live set. I want to explore a mixture of dance & chill bedroom pop, possibly more use of live instruments in the tracks, I'm not really 100% sure, I'm going into the studio with oscar soon and I guess we will see what comes out then!

LUNA: How do you think the Sydney music scene has shaped you as an artist?

MAY: Well, I've been super lucky to grow up with a big group of friends who are all artists either solo or in bands and I've really grown and been shaped by the influence of them for sure which I'm so grateful for.

LUNA: What are you most passionate about lately?

MAY: I am most passionate about getting better at guitar and just writing in general, I've been studying the lyrics of my favourite artist's songs and seeing the way I interpret them and then I'll look up what it actually means and study that further. I love it when I've interpreted the verse wrong and I find out what it is actually about, that's the coolest part for sure, understanding where the artists head was at and what they were trying to say.

LUNA: A fun one - attach a photo of the last thing in your camera roll.

LUNA: This release is a great way to kick off the new year -  what intentions do you have for 2021?

MAY: I have intentions to release much more music, play as many live shows as possible and kick my goalz out the park.
