Now Listening: This Week's Tracks

Payday - “White Mercedes”

Payday’s newest single, “White Mercedes'' is a powerful coming-of-age anthem that expresses the vulnerabilities and excitement of being a teenager. Reminisced by singing and laughing alongside friends, “White Mercedes” is a new essential to add to your late night drive playlist. The music video perfectly complements the free-spirited energy the lyrics and instrumentals represent. Keep Payday on your radar - “White Mercedes” is a preview of what’s to come with her new EP, Trips to Venus, releasing soon.

Silklake - “Wake Me Up”

Moscow-based Singer songwriter, Egor (who goes by the name Silklake), is back with his latest track “Wake Me Up.” Gentle, dreamy, and comforting, his new song has an air of familiarity that creates a catchy feel. Laced with the lyrics, “and I do believe in a moment / I do believe in first sight / and I can't explain how it happens but I can feel the light / I don't wanna miss this moment,” Egor sings sweetly over nostalgic instrumentation.  “Wake Me Up” is a sparkly and soft percussive love song that recalls “home is at the bottom of your heart.” If you’re in need of a dreamy, folk pop fix, this is the perfect tune for you.

Silklake hopes to release his debut full-length album soon, currently in its mixing stage.

filt - “Times Without a Job”

On “Times Without a Job,” filt finds inspiration from recent unemployment. Escapism is favored over the present moment in heartfelt and earnest vocal delivery. The song was written on his “grandma’s ancient guitar” and the weariness extends into the arrangement. Lyrics deal with emotional difficulties in the instability of the broader world and direct emotional circumstances.

The video prominently features a fisheye lens, rounding out the edges and making filt the only occupant of a tiny planet. His head takes up the top of the frame as little Earths of sidewalk and suburbia give the perfect picture of unemployed life.

Bocce - “Summer”

Arriving at the cusp between summer and autumn, Bocce’s latest track pulls feelings from our younger years, when summer felt neverending and growing older was an eternity away. With sounds akin to those of Phoebe Bridgers and the Cranberries, the track explores the transformative nature of the more painful times during adolescence, when experimenting with love and finding guilt and shame instead of sweet romance. Through “Summer” Bocce intends to reignite some of the passion and freshness of our youth in adulthood.

Dreams on Tape - “Good Times”

An experimental indie project hailing from Tampa, Florida, Dreams on Tape’s latest single “Good Times” offers listeners a first glimpse of their upcoming EP. Built upon layers of nostalgia and feelings of youth, the track is a refreshing reminder of the sweeter side to life. Dreams on Tape draws inspiration from a wide range of art forms, including vintage photographs, contemporary bedroom pop music, and coming of age films.

May Payne - “Lazy Sunday”

20-year-old singer-songwriter Maya Payne shares about the joy of getting lost in someone, even temporarily, with her newest release, “Lazy Sunday”. Soft, honeyed lyrics like “Tell me I can live a dream / ‘Cause you’re the sweetest girl I’ve ever seen” illuminate the lighthearted and sun-fuelled track - perfect for reeling in the end of summer.

With just three singles under her belt, the Manchester-based artist is establishing her own sound through the blending of indie and R&B sounds, similar to the likes of Rex Orange County and Lily Allen. “I even picked up the trumpet to play on this track to add to the whimsical feel!” Payne commented.
