Now Listening: This Week's Tracks

Coolhand Jax - “Everybody Else”

23-year-old Coolhand Jax, also known as Jake Weissman, releases his new single, “Everybody Else,” a track that looks at the hyperproductive worlds association to the open road’s nothingness. Filled with unique sounds and produced on the road, “Everybody Else” is an upbeat and playful indie pop song, reminding us of the early 2010s. Completely feeling like summer rolled into one song and radiating so much warmth and optimism that's associated with the idea of summer, “Everybody Else” will be on repeat, in your playlists, and in your head. The addictiveness to the song is admirable, Weissman truly outdoes himself with every song he releases which only makes us more excited to hear his upcoming debut EP, No Dreams of Anything, set to release soon in Summer 2020 so keep tabs on him.

pj franTz - “hey”

A feel good song that’s much needed as we approach summer soon ending, “hey” is a warm filled indie song to get you in a good mood. Recorded in his bedroom, pj frantz’ “hey” combines his smooth vocals that easily flow within the beat of the song, adding unique aspects to it throughout creating a song to stay in your head forever. It’s definitely the kind of song you’ll make memories with your friends with.  With only two songs out now, pj frantz is excited to be creating more and hopefully put out more singles and an EP soon. Save up your last moments of summer and go play this song with friends.

Conan Gray - “Heather”

Soft and entrancing, Conan Gray's newest single “Heather” encapsulates the feelings of envy and self-loathing that comparing yourself to someone else can bring about. The track, a standout from Gray's critically adored debut album Kid Krow is strikingly vulnerable, with introspective lyrics and dreamy vocals.

The intimate and mesmerising visuals for the “Heather” music video are just as beautiful, Gray noting, “when I was in high school, I had a crush on the same one person all four years. but that one person did not love me back, instead my crush liked a girl named Heather. Heather was gentle and beautiful, inside and out. she was warm like a summer day, and had so many friends. she was soft and so easily lovable— everything I am not. the heather video is my way of becoming all of the things that I envy about heather. I would’ve done anything to be like her. wear the right pretty clothes and act the right effortless way. reject all the things that made me who I am. anything to be loved back by the person I loved. anything to be their first choice. the slow transformation throughout the video was made to represent the feminine and masculine traits I constantly switched between in order to become who I knew my crush would like. somebody soft and sweet. somebody like Heather.”

In his meteoric two year rise, Conan Grey has already proven himself to be an exceptional musician and lyricist. “Heather” builds on this unprecedented success, and has already garnered over 110 million global streams.

Chalk Talk - “Catch A Break”

A gentle, nostalgia-inducing anthem, Chalk Talk's latest track “Catch a Break” is one to remember. With retro elements, a catchy tune and divine vocals, the song flawlessly encapsulates the fear of growing up and everything changing.

San-Diego based band Chalk Talk— consisting of Nina, Sophie, Katie and Stella— aims to inspire these exact feelings with their music, as the band is “an attempt to musically capture their worst fears, teenage hopes and bedroom poetry.”

With over 18,000 monthly listeners on Spotify alone, the band has already cemented themselves in the music scene, and is sure to go places.

The Yves - “The Blvd”

Los Angeles-based band The Yves's newest single “The Blvd” is dreamy and enchanting, following the upbeat, nostalgia-flecked steps of their very first single “Road Less Known.”

The duo explains, “‘The Blvd’ is about that feeling of being in a crowded place but still feeling alone inside your own head.. however not in a bad way, but more of a contemplative mindset and mood. Like when you're listening to music in headphones while walking right past people and you both are in the same place at the same time but can have entirely different experiences simultaneously. We are making an animated music video for this single, as well as recording a stripped version.”

The Yves is the new musical project of Stevie Perry and Jake Randle, former members of the band Machineheart. Their music is fresh and contemplative, and their only end goal is to make music that they like— the success and acclaim they have gained is an added benefit.
