Now Listening: This Week's Tracks
New Sense - “Watch the Stars Fall”
New Sense's “Watch the Stars Fall” is a brilliantly beautiful song, invoking feelings of nostalgia and transporting the listener to a different place. With dreamy vocals and a retro feel to it, the track perfectly matches its music video, which is a psychedelic experience involving starry skies and silhouettes.
Speaking of the creation of “Watch the Stars Fall”, New Sense says, “The song is the product of a lot of late night sessions with 38_hrtz, a man I met at community college. I would do most of the production work but he would shoot me ideas for the song that I would never have thought of. He is the one singing the chorus as well.”
With “Watch the Stars Fall”, New Sense stuns and reaches new highs, making the listener feel like a part of something bigger than themselves.
Yukon Blonde - “In Love Again”
For the hopeless romantics out there, Yukon Blonde’s new song “In Love Again,” will throw you into a daydream of love. With it’s wistful tunes and romantic lyrics, “In Love Again,” touches on new found romance and the intimacy it brings, even when we thought we would never feel like that again. Taking full control of their music production, Yukon Blonde has only just advanced the kind of sound they want to portray and create like in “In Love Again.” A sound you’ll daydream to, a sound you’ll make memories to, and a sound that will live in your head with emotions. “In Love Again” only leaves listeners more curious to see what the Vancouver based band will bring to their music in the world.
For Sure - “The Last Dance”
LA based dream pop/indie duo, For Sure, release their new song “Last Dance,” a glittery dream in the form of a song. “Last Dance” is the third single off their upcoming 6-track collection, Distance Demos. “Last Dance” follows a story about having a chance near encounter with a crush, and the many encounters that come with it. Singing, “can you hold me forever? It’s the last dance that I’ll have,” it’s the third encounter and the one where you want to give up, and you just want them to be there with you. For Sure has never failed to create specific emotions with their music, “Last Dance” not only expresses that thrill of seeing a crush through lyrics, but also by the way they layer their music, the melodic guitars, and synths that capture everything.
Riches - “Fantasy Chapel”
Riches' latest song, “Fantasy Chapel” puts together distinctive sonic elements to create a tune that hooks you from the very first second. The track is a stunning manifestation of an ongoing dialogue between Catherine McCandless of Young Galaxy and choreographer Wynn Holmes.
Described as a multidisciplinary collaboration of music, dance and performance, “Fantasy Chapel” is one of the first parts of the upcoming project, focusing on themes such as the performance of creative rituals, identity, transgression and devotion, in a narrative form.
The song certainly holds one's attention, cementing the fact that Riches’ upcoming album– a concept record, “the soundtrack to an imaginary horror film”– will be one to look forward to. Fortunately, the anticipation won't last too long, as the album comes out September 25th.
filous & The Kooks - “Hey Love”
Joined by The Kooks, 22-year-old Austrian artist, Filous, created a summer song that emits a carefree feeling, the way summer always feels. The melodic yet youthful melody that “Hey Love” brings is what makes this song the kind of song you’ll constantly think about throughout the day. It feels like a warm hug yet feels like the feeling you get when you’ve realized how happy you are at the moment. Giving us these feelings just makes us excited for what Filous has to bring to music, “Hey Love” is just one of the singles from his forthcoming project, alongside “Monday” and “Bicycle.” Filous is a visionary, constantly experimenting and creating, which in turn only makes his sound evolve and be unique to himself. He’s someone to be keeping an eye (or ear really) on.
Rook Monroe - “Jolie”
Upbeat and catchy, Rook Monroe's debut single “Jolie” is the perfect tune to dance to– one that stands out as organic and finely crafted. The song, a collaboration with Trackside (Tinashe, BabyJake, Selena Gomez) is a part of Rook Monroe's upcoming self-written project, created through a year-long process of musical discovery.
Despite Jolie being Rook Monroe's first original release, he has already built himself a space in the industry, having penned down Rihanna's critically acclaimed “Desperado”, amongst other songs from Jeremih to The Chainsmokers.
