The Grogans - “I’m Not Sure”

Australian trio The Grogans’ latest single “I’m Not Sure” is about uncertainty. A combination of instruments resembles the disordered state of mind that worry puts one in. That being said, between cymbals, wave-like guitar, and harmonies softening an otherwise frustrated expression of uncertainty, “I’m Not Sure” manages to depict a clear image of how overwhelming everyday struggles can be. The song touches on the all-too-familiar inflation of worry caused by overthinking: “I’m only waist deep but I think I’m drowning.” The song repeats the lyric “I’m not sure which way I’m going” and there’s consolation in the repetition—there may be anxiety, but a collective understanding eases the alienation of it. The Grogans’ previous single “Nowhere To Be”, a roaring rock track, was added to multiple Spotify editorial playlists. “I’m Not Sure” hints at their upcoming album expected to release later this year.

Elle Coves - “Summer”

19-year-old Elle Coves’ latest single “Summer” is a classic summer track celebrating youth, friendship, and the boldness of the season. Exhibiting her alt-pop sound, with convivial lyrics and a catchy electronic beat, the song evokes the I-feel-alive sentiment we all seek during the summer. If you’re looking for an anthem to dance to with your girls, Coves’ “Summer” may be just what you need: “It’s just us girls and we’ll do what we like. Breaking all the rules, party all night. Follow our hearts and we’ll be alright ‘cause this is our summer.” On the song, Coves says, “I wanted to write a feel good song that people could play with their mates, making their own summer memories.” The track is only her second release, but Coves has amassed over 100,000 Spotify listeners already.

Coach Kit - “Hologram”

The enigmatic Coach Kit’s latest single “Hologram” is an electronic love song with impressive images: “You’re up in the morning with your feet in the grass. I’m squeezing lemon in my water glass. Pour another shot from the coffee can. Eatin’ leftovers right out of the pan.” In addition to the small but meaningful details of a relationship, hypnotizing vocal distortion, and turbulent guitar riffs create a digital atmosphere of passion in “Hologram”. Coach Kit’s sound is varied, but fans of Mitski, Djo, or TV Girl may recognize and appreciate the experimental sound.

Low Talker - “Runaway”

Effortlessly cool synths carry the journey of Low Talker’s newest single “Runaway”. Returning from a hiatus is usually a struggle, but Low Talker is coming back to the music scene with a renewed sense of self and style. This track feels like summer sunshine on the 405, and the breezy synth line just carries the entire track to blissful states. We can’t wait to hear what’s coming next from the new era of Low Talker, and our summer playlists are already made better by the addition of “Runaway”!

Glou-Glou - “Drink Slowly”

With a name playing on the french wine-term for “glugging” your drink, it only makes sense for the first single from Glou-Glou to be titled “Drink Slowly”. Glou-Glou is a new solo project from Cam Hovsepian, whose previous project mAsis garnered massive streaming and editorial success. Starting on a new page, Glou-Glou finds shimmering and sultry vocals riding the high of comfortable guitar and bass lines. “Drink Slowly” is as rich and smooth as your beverage of choice with the power to catapult Glou-Glou to impossible musical heights. Keep your eye on this Glou-Glou, we’re certain we’ll be hearing the name buzzing around the music industry with each new release.

Solomon Rex - “Fly On The Wall”

Solomon Rex doesn’t shy away from being vulnerable in new indie pop single “Fly On The Wall”. The song holds an upbeat energy with bright electronic instrumentation, juxtaposing Rex’s emotional recollections of his experiences in youth and how that has shaped his life now. It’s impossible to not find yourself within the lyricism as Solomon recounts moments of rejection, judgment, and isolation. Finding his place now is still a struggle recurrent throughout the track, and sonically the build continues to grow with each passing moment of age. Solomon Rex has an EP set to release later this fall, and if “Fly On The Wall” is any indication, this project will be nothing short of fantastic.
