Now Listening: This Week's Tracks

Amen Sioux - “Useless”

Amen Sioux translates his enigmatic, rock-star energy into edgy new indie single “Useless.” With a punchy melody, and tongue-and-cheek lyrics “Useless” is an effortlessly danceable track, right in time for Spring. The eclectic mix of electronica, dream pop, and alternative RnB and psychedelic makes for captivating listen that makes you want to move and groove. “Useless” is textured  —the  punky vocals, invogiorating drum beat and groovy bassline keep the listener locked in. When discussing the writing process, Amen Sioux explained, ““I reset my approach to recording to make the EP. After I struggled to write using my laptop, I found success working in studios alongside other musicians and professional producer and engineer Maurizio Baggio ( Boy Harsher ).” This collaboration with other musicians and industry experts has pushed Amen Sioux to a high caliber. We at Luna are excited to hear what he has in store for us next.

Girlhouse - “you don’t think about me”

Opening with an intriguing mix of steady guitars, mixed-up sound bits, and record scratches, girlhouse immediately pulls the listener into her new single “you don’t think about me”. The indie singer/songwriter has had quite the ride. From growing up in Portland to following her dreams of becoming an actress in LA, featuring in Broadway productions to finally releasing music as girlhouse. It’s all of these different facets of life and entertainment that culminate in a strong identity and sound for girlhouse.

When it comes to music, Lauren Luiz is inspired by fellow female singer-songwriters like Phoebe Bridgers and Soccer Mommy. She effortlessly pulls from her own experiences and personal life to deliver tracks like “you don’t think about me”. The song itself is a dreamy indie track complete with driving guitars and lofty vocals. Luiz blends different vocal styles showcasing the range of her voice and the different emotions that can be conveyed throughout the song.

If you’ve ever had a crush, it’s easy to relate to a track like “you don’t think about me”. The lyrics almost feel like an early 2000s rom-com with their diary-esque questions and nods to lightly obsessing about someone who doesn’t even think about you. If you’re looking for your next track to daydream to, girlhouse has got you covered.

Boko Yout - “TELEPROMPTER”

Boko Yout isn’t just making intriguing beats and vocal rhythms in his tracks, but creating a statement piece with his latest track “TELEPROMPTER”. The jagged track with sing-songy accapella bits and punchy drum rhythms feels jarring at first but quickly creates a groove of its own. On the track the mind behind Boko Yout, Stockholm-based Paul Adamah states that “TELEPROMPTER is about the stereotype of the ‘rich white man’ and his naive thoughts about privilege, capitalism, and entrepreneurship - elbowing your way through life.”

As we continue to navigate through capitalistic life, artists like Adamah expertly articulate the frustration and confusion we all feel. Luckily this latest single is only a piece of a larger EP As See On Tv, in which Boko is creating his own tv network debate. Listeners will be able to “watch” the debate unfold throughout the EP and be able to ponder the words of the “bachelor father and local rapper meeting on the TV sofa.”

The new track blends unique vocal takes and percussive elements to create a groove that’s easy to get lost in. “TELEPROMPTER” is just a taste of what’s coming and is a must-listen for fans of artists like Yves Tumor.

Lydia Luce - “Face and Figure”

Lydia Luce, a multi-instrumentalist and vocalist from Nashville, has joined the Nettwerk family. Today, she delivers her new single, "Face and Figure," which features a raw message of genuine self-love and acceptance. The single brings a new feeling into spring, a hopeful and sweet one. Lydia's music is a blend of indie-folk and chamber pop, with lush string arrangements and introspective lyrics that create a captivating listening experience. Both critics and fans have praised Lydia's distinctive sound, and her previous releases have received millions of streams on various platforms. With her signing to Nettwerk, she is poised to reach an even wider audience and make a lasting impact on the music industry. On “Face and Figure,” Lydia says, “For me, this song is about being self-critical and a reminder to myself that I am more than my age, looks, identity, size, or occupation. I am a soul and a witness to the beauty in life.”

Regency Club - “Déjà Rêvé”

Ready to dive in the 60s Dream Pop of your dreams? Regency Club has you covered with their latest track “Déjà Rêvé”. With groovy guitars and charming vocals, you’ll quickly find yourself popping to their track before the chorus even hits. The New Jersey indie-alt group showcases their evolution in both their sound and production with the latest track, noting “The song began in a much more minimal space, structured around the rhythm of the bass guitar. When live drums were added to the mix, things opened up to more of a garage rock sensibility.”

Their first release of the year, “Déjà Rêvé” sets the scene for the band’s 2023, and it’s sure to be one with more feel good tracks.
