Now Listening: This Week's Tracks

Quelle Rox - “Waves”

From her 300 square foot bedroom in Brooklyn, alt-pop Latinx artist Quelle Rox brings us her latest dreamy and hypnotizing song “Waves”. In her latest track, Quelle encourages independence and not allowing anyone to hold her back with punchy, bad bitch lyrics such as, “I don’t need no man, to get my paper and smile”. Having produced the song herself, her energy and unique style are undeniably showcased in the production of the song. Her silky voice creates a calming feeling, while the synth drums and growly bass remind the listener of the fierceness of the song lyrics. Be sure to catch her long awaited debut EP which is set to release April 23rd and read our previous feature with Quelle Rox.

Abby Bella May - “Bindii Patch”

Dream-pop artist Abby Bella has just released her latest single and newest hit, “Bindii Patch.” Her airy vocals are a clear statement throughout the track, creating a vibrant tone that allows the Sydney-based artist to shine with ease. Alongside the release comes the announcement of her debut EP, I Am Sensitive, out April 30.

On “Bindiii Patch” she notes: “Bindii patch is about the struggle of adjusting to the single life routine after a breakup, it’s all about the stages you go through, including going back and fourth from blaming yourself for the breakup and to then blaming them. Bindi patch is a metaphor, I thought of it like no matter how much you know the grass might have bindis that will hurt you, you can’t be bothered to put your shoes on, so you dive into another relationship knowing you might get hurt again, or you go back to that same person knowing that it’s probably going to hurt again.”

Just like the theme itself, we keep running back to this track, even when we know it’s been enough. Look out for May’s newest EP release coming soon. Until then, enjoy “Bindii Patch” on repeat.

JGrrey - “Down”

JGerry grabs your attention and keeps it through every note of “Down”, pairing the track with an incredibly creative video as well. Inspired by Japanese horror films from the 80s, the “Down” music video showcases JGerry’s talent when it comes to the directing role as well. The artist has stepped on the scene and stayed active, and was featured on Madlib’s latest album. After touring with Billie Eilish in late 2019, JGerry secured her spot as a one to watch. As JGerry continues to expand their discography we have the pleasure of seeing them explore their other creative talents as well.

Maya Lucia - “luuverboy”

Following her recent EP release, Lashing Out, singer-songwriter Maya Lucia is back with her latest single “luuverboy”. In this groovy, surfy rock track, Maya brings forth the feeling of a downcast summer day that winds down towards the end to the promise of good days on the way. With “luuverboy”, Maya captures the raw emotion of unrequited love and wishing the person you most desire and long for be right there by your side. The listener is serenely submerged into the beautiful production of the song, with the soft strumming and playing of instruments mixing with her breezy smooth vocals.

Toomi - “Tidal Wave”

As spring slowly turns to summer and bedroom pop melodies fill the warm air, Asian-American lo-fi/indie artist TOOMI dropped their Debut EP, Water Wings on April 6. The lead single Tidal Wave brings in the tide of new sounds and emotions, perfect for the start of summer! The California-based band said their new bedroom pop song is about embracing things as they are, letting the song speak for itself. The soft melody and guitar paint the picture of content happiness as the singers share feelings of how things end up, regardless of the turn out. Just like the tide, TOOMI will be ever-flowing and changing, giving listeners a variety of soft bedroom pop music to add to their summer playlist and jam out to with their friends.

Melby - “Magic”

Sweet with swiftness and luring warmth, Melby releases new single, “Magic,” a kind of song you’ll get stuck to. The Stockholm four-piece reminds us that they are the most interesting Scandanavian acts around. It’s something rare to come across artists who can experiment and shift their sounds seamlessly without losing their own unique touch on their music. Melby takes on aspects from folk, psych, indie and pop. Truly making them interesting. In “Melby,” you’ll get drawn in immediately with a sweet little melody that brings in a strong voice. It’s a sweet little song with a feeling of bittersweetness but euphoria. If you haven’t checked out Melby yet, get on them as soon as you can. We can’t wait what else is in store for them.

Charlie Duda - “Really Really”

Charlie Duda’s new single Really Really brings a feeling of familiar nostalgia, perfect for the 2021 summer planned ahead. Los Angeles-based DIY artist Duda, originally from Northern Virginia, released “really Really” from his upcoming EP “roller coaster”, set to be released on June 4th. The high-energy single is a mesmerizing and perfect fit for the warm summer weather to come. Along with “really really”, Duda’s will be releasing another single “marble” in early May, in preparation for his coming EP. Produced, engineered, and mixed by Duda’s, Really Really captivates the early summer energy that so many search for at the beginning of their break. Listeners can eagerly await Duda’s next release coming in early May.

Cal In Red - “Zebra”

Zebra has listeners escaping into the world of music; Falling deep into the flowing atmosphere of Cal in Red’s music. The Lead single of the band’s first EP exhibits a looming and hazy melody with falsettos cascading over the top of the bright guitar and vocal harmonies. Presenting the fullness of Cal in Red’s sound, the combination of strings, harmonies and fuzz, “come in to disarm the “morning sunlight” while also giving listeners a reason to dance,” the band said. After a few years, Cal in red excitedly releases their hard work, with Zebra taking center stage. Fans and listeners can eagerly stand by until the band’s EP is released, slipping into the world of music that is oozing with fun and anticipation.

Tipling Rock - “handmedown”

A sweet little song to bring into Spring. “handmedown” combines a cool drum groove that you’ll notice throughout the song, bass, lo-fi acoustic guitar and an 80s Juno synthesizer that makes you smile and ties it together to create a warm and cute song. The vocals are smooth and throughout the song - you’ll hear the beautiful melody with vocals in the background that add on to the upbeat song while adding the hint of bittersweetness we all need in our music. Tipling Rock noticed the sound had a personality that reminded them of old clothes, a hand me down. Considering themselves “beach pop,” the band is from Boston but has reached many other places due to their unique and sweet sound. Small yet effective, we can’t wait to hear more from them but for now we’ll be playing “handmedown” on repeat and we think you should too.

spill tab - “PISTOLWHIP”

The young, bilingual pop artist is at it again, but this time with a live performance of “PISTOLWHIP” and “calvaire” on VEVO. Both tracks are recent singles from spill tab, but set the stage for a more intimate experience for fans to gather for. The artist is accompanied by only vocals, guitar, and the piano, mixing in her signature pop touches. With beaming and ethereal lights that blend into her performance, spill tab pounds in with a force that’s almost reminiscent of Billie Eilish. Although the videos have now racked up around 20k views in only a week’s time, she’s barely starting her journey, and one were watching up intensely.
