bennytheghost - “Say Something”

bennytheghost is starting a new era with his latest release, “Say Something.” Heralding the start of his second EP release, this summery song perfectly fits the unseasonably warm weather in LA. The breezy track pulls inspiration from Role Model and Dominic Fike as the chorus easily sticks in your head so you’ll be humming it under your breath in no time. “Say Something” further adds to his growing catalog of indie pop driving songs that are becoming his hallmark. bennytheghost is launching a North American tour in just a couple days.

Vance Joy - “Don’t Fade”

A third album is in the works for singer-songwriter Vance Joy, and his newest single is a promising preview of his new creative direction. “Don’t Fade” feels like a fresh reinvention as Joy’s classic indie rock sound is melded with pop influences. Soft guitar strums establish the melody, but a cool hip-hop beat and Joy’s smooth hums lead the listener through. The lyrics and sonics are deeply sentimental, and the pop elements add on a liveliness to the song. He sings of a strong and enduring love, describing a relationship with a classic metaphor for infinite time: a perpetual light.

Motel Carnation - “Sweet Separation”

Electronic indie trio Motel Carnation released their newest single, “Sweet Separation.” With this track, the northeast England-based band delivers a unique blend of sonic elements, ranging from the gang vocals of modern British electro-pop to the synths and percussion of 70s disco. On “Sweet Separation,” Austin (band member) said: “Myself and Alex both took different lyrical routes from the fork in the road that "Sweet Separation" seemed to present as a phrase. I'll leave the specifics down to the listener’s interpretation but the same themes started to arise; relief, regret, relapse. It’s a track about taking charge of your own autonomy and maybe being a little brutal for the greater good too. It was refreshing to put our heads together lyrically and “Sweet Separation” remains special as it’s the first instance of us doing that as songwriters.”
