Now Listening: This Week's Tracks
Mulherin - “Dance With You”
LA-based duo Mulherin released the music video to their single, “Dance With You.” Directed by Nik Arthur and Marshall Mulherin, the video is 6 months in the making, having been printed frame-by-frame onto paper and re-scanned by hand. Despite the arduous, 800-page process that birthed it, the video’s flowing movement and neutral tones complement the song’s acoustic pop/R&B composition well and create a listening experience that matches the honest, easy-going nature of the track’s hook:
Usually I don't dance
I wanna dance with you
Come and take a chance on me
I'm just as nervous as you
“Dance With You” serves as the precursor to their upcoming EP dropping December 10, 2021.The twins’ year-end project will mark their third together, though their credits include work on projects by Dijon and BROCKHAMPTON among others.
Addezine - “Through My Hands” -
Addezine also known as Tom Edden is back with a gentle bedroom pop follow up to his debut single “Stairs” that came out in August. The latest track, “Through My Hands”, slowly builds up to an R&B, alt pop tune that is both evocative and relaxing. Born and raised in the UK, it’s clear the musician’s influences of nostalgic music and varying genres shines through this latest single. Inspired by James Blake and Blood Orange to name a few, his DIY style of music already feels refined. Addezine’s second single is an impressive song which explores the story of a summer fling. His intentions to create a feeling of wistfulness in both the melody and lyrics pays off, as he describes that “my favorite songs are the ones which make me happy and sad at the same time.” He replicates this melancholic feeling well in “Through My Hands”. Addezine writes, records and produces all of his music from his bedroom, with the intention of evolving and growing, listeners should certainly keep their eye out for him and his new music.
Cal In Red - “WTLUN”
From Grand Rapids, Michigan, Cal In Red has recently put out their song “WTLUN (Where That Leaves Us Now)” which was written after a move that Kendall had gone through and after a long writing drought that he faced. Kendall wrote this track while he was going through a breakdown on his basement floor that ultimately led him to come to terms with past trauma. The two brothers, Kendall and Connor have created a song that brings back the music vibes from the 80’s and morphs it with modern psychedelia. “WTLUS” showcases the honest reality and the perplexity of going through adulthood, or life in general, while simultaneously trying to manage your own inner struggles and allowing yourself to actually feel them as well as the confusion of one's identity.
Greatest Hits - “Nuclear Love”
If you’re dreaming of summer, look no further than “Nuclear Love,” the newest single by Greatest Hits, off their upcoming EP Volume 2, out December 3. The track is both sunny and swanky, melding bright indie pop with a funk groove. The singer is thinking about a lover, but the feeling of longing doesn’t feel heavy. Instead the song proposes, what could happen if we were together? There’s a thread of anticipation in the lyrics, that’s accompanied by synths and bass that sonically capture what being in love feels like. The track’s warmth is exactly what you’ll need this winter.
