Alfie Templeman - “Shady”
Alfie Templeman continues his slew of hit singles with his latest track “Shady”. Exploring some new sonic sounds and production elements, “Shady” reflects a more edgier tone to Templeman’s sound, in addition to showcasing his growth as a producer. Always bringing the type of energy that keeps you into each note, the musician keeps building a strong foundation for himself. Templeman notes, “[“Shady”] is about trying to stay true to myself, doing what I wanna do in my life and trying to avoid all the arguments and shady people that come with it. No more negativity, more making sense of the past and enjoying what the present has to offer.”
Featured in our 13th Issue, it’s always a pleasure to see Templeman stay true to himself while bringing a new flavor to this sound each time.
Frazier Blue - “Baby Blue”
With his first released single,”Baby Blue,” Frazier Blue is keeping us warm with his bittersweet melodies. “Baby Blue” was mixed, produced, and recorded in his own bedroom but it’s so well done you would think this came straight out of a recording studio. Frazier Blue mixes sweet lyrics with almost fuzzy sounding vocals that tie his music into what a dream would sound like. “Baby Blue” is a literal dream in song form, you’ll be daydreaming about it forever and makes for the perfect song to listen to on night drives. With this being his first single, Frazier Blue has definitely left a mark with this song and we’re only more excited to see what he has up his sleeve. Keep an ear out for him but for now, escape into the world of “Baby Blue.”
KALI - “Back To The Start”
KALI's debut single “Back to the Start” is a perfect introduction to the 16 year-old singer and multi-instrumentalist. A lush, heartwarming bedroom pop tune, the lyrics of “Back to the Start” talk about going round in circles, and being pulled back to the start of a relationship again and again. With KALI's dreamy vocals and the nostalgic visuals co+directed by KALI, Zealand Yancy and Sophia Ziskin, the track perfectly encapsulates a teenage relationship, as well as the joy of being a teenager.
Abby Bella May - “Wish We Could Be Friends”
If you’re looking for a new indie-pop song to obsess over, we give you “Wish We Could Be Friends.” Abby Bella May releases a new single, full of energy yet sincerity in her lyrics that make this song special. With melodies and sounds that pop out, “Wish We Could Be Friends” is an immediate like and save to a playlist song. It’s the perfect balance of mellow and pop and if you add relatability to it, it’s the perfect song. It’s a window into her personal life, a breakup with tension in wanting to be friends but still having space. We’ve all been there and it’s hard to know you have to let them go to get over them. Abby Bella May puts all those feelings into words, and here we can listen to them and find security in knowing that we aren’t alone. Plus now you get to have a cool song to play on repeat.
GrapeGuitarBox - “Free”
In an animated short film released by Tinder this month, GrapeGuitarBox's “Free” is the dulcet song in the background that catches the listener's attention.
A soft, breezy tune, created in collaboration queer illustrator and animator Deepti, in partnership with Gaysi Family, “Free” captures the essence of a new relationship, and the thrill and hope that comes with meeting someon new.
The film, as well as the song, is the true story of a Desi lesbian couple that matched on Tinder, and formed a connection over digital experiences. The release is significant, as it showcases increasing representation of the South Asian queer community in mainstream media.
“Free”, with its sweet lyrics, silky vocals, and simple and beautiful production, is a song that every listener can relate to, and thus, stays with the listener.
Beach Vacation - “Our Night Is Falling”
Beach Vacation bring a smooth though somber tone with “Our Night Is Falling”, featured on their debut album I Fell Apart. Though starting off as a high school band, Beach Vacation has since crafted an indie pop sound, taking inspiration from “every Swedish pop band”. The band notes, "This song is about when our bandmate had a bad night out with his date. When it wasn't going well he would start overthinking and would have flashbacks about previous experiences."
