Now Listening: This Week's Tracks

Mae Mae - “Peach”

It’s easy to have a complicated relationship with the place you were born. On one hand, it’s comforting to go home while on the other hand you grow into a different person while you’re  away. Mae Mae sums up this struggle in the warm indie pop tune “Peach”. The Orange County-based, but Georgia-born songwriter created the track to sort out her feelings on growing up in the South. The accompanying music video shows a barren field with Mae Mae dancing around, straw hat dangling from her neck. Her voice drips with sweetness throughout the song. The bouncy production makes this a delicate, uplifting indie track a la Sylvan Esso and Maggie Rogers. Mae Mae keeps the focus of the song on her voice and the story that she’s telling through her lyrics. Of how complicated it is to love where you grew up, but hesitant to truly call it your home.

Blair Lee - “Peachy World”

The world isn’t always as peachy as we make it out to be in our heads. In her latest single, “Peachy World,” Canadian singer-songwriter Blair Lee explores this human desire to blur the lines between our dream world and our reality. With soothing, strumming guitars and a classic indie pop melody, this song seeps into the mind of the listener, immediately hooking them in.  The lyrics are simple yet effective, artfully describing that relatable feeling of second-guessing your intuition and creating fantasies out of your existence. Lee’s breathy vocals wrap around you like a blanket, rocking you into a state of pure comfort. With help from producer and collaborator ModMaxx, Blair Lee gives us a taste of  her upcoming debut EP The Puppy Game. We at luna are excited about what peachy melodies Blair Lee has in store for the future.

Honeywhip - “Tag Along”

Tokyo-formed duo honeywhip brings us their newest single “Tag Along,” as a spunky, rhythmic and flirtatious addition to their resume of fresh bops. Currently based out of Nevada, the duo formed during a period of simultaneous isolation yet fiery creativity and musical inspiration. Mixing and mastering everything themselves at home, honeywhip has an eclectic and refreshing style that they’ve cultivated, keeping listeners entranced. ”Tag Along” is upbeat and matches Honeywhip’s signature whispery vocals with otherworldly sounds. Honeywhip reflects on this latest song’s meaning saying, “sometimes love is one sided and yes, it sucks... but maybe it's actually ok? This is a song about remembering that we’re good on our own. That we can be at peace on our own. That we can actually thrive on our own, and maybe most importantly, that no relationship is worth sacrificing your own self worth or happiness for.”

Isabel Pless - “Keeping Score”

Over a full year after her post singing it went viral on TikTok, Isabel Pless released her new single, “Keeping Score.” Using her signature wit, Pless recounts the story of a heartbreak she experienced at 18. Of the song, Pless says “I really liked a guy and I thought he liked me back, but it turned out that he was only speaking to me because I would help him write his essays for English class.” The single is a catchy encapsulation of youth, naïveté and the embarrassment of early experiences with love.

LORANA - “Pull Me Back To The Present”

LORANA’s new track, “Pull Me Back To The Present,” is the perfect track for this autumn. Whether it’s a healing fall or not, LORANA touches on being an overthinker and having to ground yourself so things don’t get overwhelming. With a sweet melody throughout, the track pulls you in with a smooth flow of vocals and instrumentals that you can get lost in. There’s a beauty in the topic, something that is okay to do is get lost in your head but LORANA sends a friendly reminder to be present when needed and know how to pull yourself out of it. The good thing here is that the track itself feels like something that would get stuck in your head, buried deep in there that if you were to get lost — “Pull Me Back To The Present,” would play and do just what it says it does.
