Loki’s Folly- “Beaches and Peaches”

“Beaches and Peaches” is the first single from Loki’s Folly, a Minneapolis-based group specializing in “loud music.” Composed of siblings, Annie (age 21), Nissa (age 16), and Oskar (age 12), they bring infectious energy on this assured debut.

The song, at under two minutes, wastes no time in getting right to it. Simple drum, bass, guitar combo pair with whimsical rhyming of different fruits and places. Joy is on full display with a nice edge. “Beaches and Peaches” is instantly catchy, full of classic punk grievances like the corruption of “everything” and the punctuation of each verse line with a primal howl. The breakdown has twinkling bells and a well-timed slide whistle.

Loki’s Folly are fully realized out the gates with a sound that is original and urgent. Their personalities are engrained in the notes.

“Beaches and Peaches” is streaming now. Their debut album, Sisu, is out February 21 from Josie Cotton’s Kitten Robot Records.

Jacko Hooper - “Getting No Place Fast”

Brighton singer-songwriter Jacko Hooper is back with his latest single “Getting No Place Fast,” the first offering from his debut record Respair. Full of catchy synth-pop, the melody running through the track is complimented by Hooper’s rich and harmonious vocals. Known for combining “mesmerizing soulful vocals, beautiful guitar and achingly honest words" by seeking influence from his sentimental surroundings, Jacko uses “Getting No Place Fast” to not only dive into introspection but help his listeners do the same. Documenting the highs and lows of love and heartbreak after transitioning to normality after the impact of the pandemic years, this first taster of his debut album is both promising and exciting.

JW Francis – “Swooning”

The final taste of Francis’ latest album Dream House, “Swooning” offers the feeling of a summer love in the midst of the cold winter months. With lively guitars and peppy drum beats, the track is an upbeat and gentle sonic fling. Dream House is an album exploring love, composed of 12 Valentine’s themed songs requested by Francis’ listeners as odes to their lovers.
