VENICE BEACH, Calif. (June 3, 2024) – Multi-generational skate talent assembled as Red Bull Origin made its debut on Venice Beach, celebrating the birthplace of modern skateboarding and those who share a passion for the cultural phenomenon. The multi-day competition brought together the pioneers of skateboarding while spotlighting established and rising talent competing for a challenge-based event format. Set against the backdrop of the Southern Californian shores where it all started, replicas of the storied skate spots were sessioned by the likes of legends like Christian Hosoi and Scott Oster as well as talent from all over the world including Red Bull athletes TJ Rogers, Zion Wright, and Ryan Sheckler.
“I loved how diverse [Red Bull Origin] was. There was lots of ripping skating the whole weekend. There were so many different elements that brought the culture of skateboarding together in one,” said Red Bull athlete, TJ Rogers, “With the Natas spins, the best trick over the truck, and the element of the jam in the bowl at the Venice Skate Park, really bringing to life the origin of skating in Venice.”
“It's great that Red Bull is educating people on the history of skateboarding in the heart of Venice Beach, Santa Monica, Dogtown. It's all about the history of the location,” said skate pioneer and legend Christian Hosoi, “And I think that this type of event brings the minds of people who want to know what it was like back in the day. I think it's going to bring people to want to know more about the history and watch Dogtown and Z Boys or my documentary, Rising Sun. I mean, we lived it. We did it. We were there. It was something that can change your life and change your life forever. It'll inspire you to want to skateboard or to want to be just good at whatever you do.”
