From The Road: The Ghost Club
FRESH OFF THEIR ELECTRIFYING SXSW SHOW, A NEW ALBUM AND TOUR, The Ghost Club took a second to reflect on their crazy spring season.
Frontman Domenic Dunegan shares the band's experience on their recent tour, a whirlwind adventure marked by an early concussion, a near miss with a spooky "Dead Man's Pass," and the camaraderie that forms when you're all crammed into an RV navigating snowstorms and chasing dreams.
The Ghost Club isn't just about wild escapades, however. Domenic also reflects on how their live performance has evolved, becoming tighter and more confident with each show. Looking ahead, he shares his ambitions for the band, including new music and, hopefully, more chances to connect with fans live.
LUNA: How did your most recent tour go?
TGC: Tour was definitely an adventure. I was concussed from the second night, so I have a pretty foggy memory of the whole thing for the most parts. I do know that for the most part everybody was having fun and we were enjoying seeing the country.
LUNA: What did a typical show day look like?
TGC: A typical day would usually just involve everybody slowly getting up one by one. We’d kinda let each other do our own thing and would have a general time set when to be back at the rv depending on how far away from the venue we were. We would make the drive in, load our gear into the venue, soundcheck, maybe have some time to grab some food, and then we would all get ready for the show, perform, then load our gear out. After we loaded out, we would try to get some distance to the next town driven, we would have to look for a place to park the rv if there wasn’t any rv park nearby. After we parked, we all settled in for the night. Rinse, wash and repeat!
LUNA: Can you share a favorite story from tour so far?
TGC: It’s only a favorite in hindsight because it was very frightening at the time. On our drive from Seattle to Salt Lake we had to cross the Rockies and we got stuck in a snow storm. We couldn’t really see much of the road and eventually we all decided to stop at the next road sign, as we approached and got snowed in a little more, we noticed the sign said “dead man’s pass”. All of us kinda took a silent look at one another and had a collective gulp. It felt like we wandered into a Scooby Doo ghost town and is only fun to reminisce on since we’ve gotten through it.
LUNA: What's been your favorite city to explore?
TGC: Austin was definitely a fun time! Was a scorcher while we were there but it was really fun to wander around SXSW.
LUNA: How have you seen your live performance evolve overtime?
TGC: I think we’ve improved over time just by repetition. I feel like there’s a certain wall you hit that you can only get past just by working over and over and over again. At first, we kinda had some nerves, but once we settled in things just kinda got a lot easier.
