From the Road: aldn
IN 2021, the young producer released his debut album Greenhouse and has been on the rise ever since. aldn has taken hyperpop by storm with the release of Good Grief and post spring self destruction.
Hyperpop is a microgenre that took the internet by storm during the pandemic. The genre takes pop music and speeds it up. Utilizing synths, catchy hooks, and autotune, hyperpop is exciting. aldn blurred the lines for what the genre can be. His newest release post spring self destruction showcases growth as he breaks out of the hyperpop genre; no longer just singing over his beats, aldn offers us a look at what can happen when one bursts out of the genre’s bubble.
True to his DIY roots, aldn captured some of his favorite moments on film for us - a grainy look into how he’s spent his time on tour. We teamed up with RETO to send out their disposable camera, and nelow we’ve chatted with aldn about tour life, how he has felt himself grow as an artist, and his intentions for the new year.
LUNA: Can you share a favorite memory from your recent live shows?
ALDN: My favorite memory was singing while crowd surfing on my back.
LUNA: What's been your favorite track to play live?
ALDN: My favorite to play live is “Swim”.
LUNA: Do you have any pre-show rituals?
ALDN: A shot of tequila, a pack of gushers and a ton of water.
LUNA: Take us through a typical show day.
ALDN: Wake up, rush to the venue for soundcheck, get coffee after soundcheck, play Nintendo Switch until the show, perform, then meet fans after the show. Finally, eat some food.
LUNA: What's the best part of performing in a live setting?
ALDN: My favorite part of performing is getting to scream and let out all my bottled up energy with the fans.
LUNA: How have you seen your live performance evolve over time?
ALDN: I’ve noticed that I don’t hold anything back anymore. My first few shows, I was very timid and anxious to use my whole voice and energy, but now I’m able to let go and put everything into my performance.
LUNA: What intentions do you have for the upcoming months and 2023?
ALDN: I plan on releasing more singles, possibly another EP and exploring more art forms.
